Lawrence Dale Cluff
1945 ~ 2015

Lawrence Dale Cluff passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015.

Larry was born in Cochise County, Douglas, Arizona, son of Dale N. Cluff and Beatrice Rae Marks. Larry had a good childhood; his best memories were playing with his cousins. As a result of his experiences he always worked to build strong family relationships. He was also a voracious reader. One summer when he was a young boy he decided to keep track of all the books he read. His list was over 350 books long. His mother always loved music and passed that love on to Larry leading him to major in music when he entered college. When he was 19 he served a mission for The LDS church in Argentina 1964-1967. When he returned from his mission his draft papers were waiting for him; he served honorably in Vietnam earning a Bronze Star.

After returning home, he met and married Barbara Thompson in the Oakland Temple in 1970. As newlyweds they moved to Pennsylvania, where he continued his education earning doctorate in economics from Penn State. Together they raised four children. Larry was always a loving and involved father. He served as his sons Cub Master for many years and actively supported all their scouting experiences. He kept his hand in music and enjoyed singing with many choirs over the years. He also loved working with wood and liked making wooden toys and giving them away.

He has always been active in his church and enjoyed serving others. His favorite calling was ward choir director. He had a successful and enjoyable career working for the General Accountability Office as an economist for 31 years and was well respected by his colleagues. When he retired he served a second mission with his wife Barbara in the Austin, TX 2008-2010. They served as CES instructors and were beloved by the college students they served.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his father Dale N Cluff and step-mother Lorna Cluff; four children and their spouses: Dale & Michelle Cluff, Paul & Tanya Cluff, Erin Houser, Evan & Jessica Cluff; six grandchildren and one on the way.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Village Way Chapel, 901 East Village Way, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow with military honors at Utah Veterans Memorial Park in Bluffdale.
