Harvey Willis Dain
1927 ~ 2014

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. - Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Harvey Willis Dain, passed away June 13, 2014 in Alpine, Utah.

He was born on July 2, 1927 in Muncie, Indiana to Chester Clarence Dain and Fern Fuschia Scheneman. Harvey joined the Navy in July, 1945 and earned a Victory in Japan Medal during World War II. Harvey served on the USS Iowa and after the war also served in the Army Air Corps and the United States Army.

Although coming from the most humble of backgrounds, Harvey attended the University of New Mexico and graduated from the University of Southern California thanks to the GI bill.

Eventually, Harvey moved to California where he met and married Lucille Lehman Dain on October 5, 1957. They were sealed together in the Los Angeles LDS temple on November 27, 1982. Lucille was everything to Harvey, and after her passing, things were tough. Harvey was close to his children and chose to live with them. He visited Lucille’s grave often, and he found solace in his LDS faith. We thank the Canyon Crest Ward in Alpine, Utah for their friendship and assistance to Harvey during the past ten years.

Besides his family, Harvey had a tremendous love for anything related to math, electronics, and radio. He worked as a supervisor in the Electron Dynamics Division at Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo, Culver City, and Torrance, California for 35 years and retired in 1989.

Harvey is survived by his son, Darrell (Carol) Dain; daughter, Dianne (Stephen) Callister; nine grandchildren, Jenna, Alyssa, Reed, Olivia, Mckenzey, Breanna, Aundraya, Gus, Axl, and two great-grandchildren, Ellorie and Ammon.

Harvey’s legacy is his good works, and his family knows him to be the epitome of "The Greatest Generation."

A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 11:00 am in the Alpine City Cemetery, 350 North Grove Dr., Alpine, Utah. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to Project Give (www.project-give.org), a philanthropic foundation established by his daughter, Dianne Dain Callister.
