September 28, 1995 ~ March 14, 2013
Dennise Escalona, our beloved daughter, sister, and friend,
returned to the loving arms of her Savior on March 14, 2013.
Born to Juan and Chalia Escalona in Provo, Utah on September
28, 1995, Itzel grew up in Utah County as the middle child
of four fun-loving girls. She attended Lone Peak High School
and was on the lacrosse and track team; she worked at Good
Earth and was a Laurel in the Cedar Hills 15th Ward.
Itzel had a zest for life that was incomparable. She danced
to the beat of her own drum and took her free spirit wherever
she went, filling the lives of those around her with love,
acceptance, and laughter. She's always been known for her
generosity. She had a light about her that everyone took
notice of; her boisterous laugh and smile could light up
a room. Never one to focus just on the outside, she looked
for the inner beauty in all things: she knew that the true
value of a person came from within. She exemplified that
by standing up for others and standing up for what she believed.
Itzel was not afraid to tell you how it is, even if you
did not want to hear it. She was real and spoke from her
heart, truly inspiring and motivating everyone she came
in contact with.
Itzel had a natural talent for dancing and enjoyed going
to dances with her friends, and was remembered for her outrageously
fun dance moves. She had an eye for design and a passion
for creativity. She loved doing photo shoots--dressing up
and taking pictures was more than just a daily occurrence
at our house. She enjoyed shopping--she was a creative stylist
with savvy budget skills, often scouring DI for hidden treasures.
She loved music and was particularly passionate about local
musicians. Her favorite activity, though, was making memories
with those she loved.
Itzel battled her cancer until the very end. While looking
through her pictures, we discovered an image she had collected
that read, "Hang in there, little fighter, things will
get brighter." That completely exemplifies her attitude--always
bright, cheerful, and positive. Never one to complain, even
through her trials, she worried more about others than herself.
Her strength and graciousness inspires all of us. Her beautiful
essence lives on in our hearts. We love you, our little
