Melvin Bliss Fullmer
-- 1927 ~ 2011 --

Melvin Bliss Fullmer of American Fork, Utah passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 30, 2011. Bliss was born October 12, 1927 to Delbert Darrow Fullmer and Jonena Peterson Fullmer in Springville, Utah. He married his sweetheart LaVon Phillips on October 10, 1952 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They spent 58 wonderful years together.
He was raised in Springville, Utah and graduated from Springville High School. In 1946, Bliss enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and served as a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne. He was honorably discharged after the war in 1947. He then served a mission for the LDS church in the Northwest States Mission. After his mission, and while working at Geneva Steel for 10 years, he continued his education at Brigham Young University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the College of Business.

After graduating from BYU, he and LaVon moved to Roy, Utah where he went to work at HAFB as a contract administrator and retired after 25 years. He loved to write, and wrote a sports column called "On The Ball with Bliss" for the Roy Sun Times (his favorite job). Bliss was an avid sports fan. He coached countless youth football, baseball and basketball teams. He absolutely loved all BYU sports -- to say he was a BYU fan is like saying Utah Lake is a pond.

He was very active in the LDS church where he served in many callings including Elders Quorum president, High Priest Group Leader and Temple Worker. He and LaVon served their Mission together in Omaha, Nebraska. Bliss loved his family and treasured time spent together.

Bliss is survived by his wife of 58 years, sister, Lois Gagon, daughter, Kristine (Jerry) Jensen, sons, Brent (Barbara) Fullmer, Philip (Cathy) Fullmer, Scott (Susan) Fullmer, Doug (Amy) Fullmer, Chad (Susan) Fullmer, Don (Jana) Fullmer, 31 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 8 sisters and a granddaughter Jennifer Fullmer.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 11:00 am in the American Fork 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 165 North 350 West, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the church and also at an additional viewing on Friday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 am prior to services. Interment, American Fork City Cemetery under the direction of Warenski Funeral Home of American Fork, Utah.
