Devin Ree Harris
-- 1996 ~ 2011 --

Devin Ree Harris, age 15, lost his battle with cancer at home in the loving arms of his Mother on November 19, 2011 surrounded by many loving family members and friends. Devin was born on September 10, 1996 in Provo, UT to Denzil and Karen Harris. Devin is survived by his parents, his two brothers Derrick and Kyle of Alpine, UT, Grandparents Garth and Betty Harris of Taber, Alberta Canada and David and LoRee Shields of Alpine, UT along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In his short fifteen years, Devin showed us all how to truly live and how to find joy and happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He taught us what things in life are truly important. He graciously battled two different types of cancer, endured many operations and adapted to several physical challenges including blindness. In spite of his physical limitations,he was the happiest person we knew and always lifted the spirit of everyone he came in contact with.

Devin was always courageous and open to trying new adventures including snow skiing, rock wall climbing, swimming, playing goalball, shootingbaskets, catching footballs, riding his bike, jetskiing and dreaming about being able to drive a car. However, it was music that brought him peace and comfort. Devin loved listening to all kinds of music but country music was his favorite. In April 2010, Make-A-Wish granted Devin a trip of a lifetime to Nashville, TN to visit the Grand Ole Opry and to meet his favorite country singer - Josh Turner. The two quickly became life-long friends. We are also grateful to Patty Lynn Jensen and the members of Due West – Brad Hull, Tim Gates and Matt Lopez – for a fantastic benefit concert and send off party prior to our trip to Nashville. Your kindness and love will never be forgotten.

Most importantly, Devin loved his Mom who selflessly loved and cared for him over these past 15 years. Devin will be greatly missed and he has left us with an abundance of memories. We express our appreciation to Dr. Carol Bruggers, the staff at Primary Children’s Hospital, everyone at Alpine Pediatrics and Intermountain Homecare and Hospice for their loving care and service. Last but not least, we express our deep appreciation and gratitude to everyone who said a prayer for Devin and our family during the past fifteen years. Our family was sustained by the prayers offered on our behalf.

Funeral services for Devin will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Alpine West LDS Stake Center Chapel located at 327 South Long Drive, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah and also Wednesday morning one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Alpine City Cemetery.
