sweet angel mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and
friend passed away quietly at home on September 7, 2017,
and returned to the loving embrace of our Savior and our
Heavenly Father, and into the waiting arms of her parents,
siblings and friends.
Helen Caroline Seely was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, on
August 4, 1927, to Ruel Hazard Seely and Anna Eula Jorgensen.
She graduated Mt. Pleasant High School and attended Brigham
Young University where she met Jonathan Hans (JH) Harvey
and fell in love. The two were married In the Salt Lake
Temple on September 25, 1946. They made their home first
in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and then moved onto the small farm
owned by JH in Manila, north of Pleasant Grove, where they
reared their family and grew apples, cherries, and raspberries,
among other things.
Helen had a love of singing and sang for many years with
a women’s choral group, the Maniloetts. She loved
to knit and to sew and was an excellent seamstress. She
also mentored young girls in 4-H in cooking and sewing.
She loved her friends and loved to socialize with them,
but her life was centered on her family.
She was an active and faithful member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and instilled in her children
faith in Jesus Christ and a love of the gospel. She served
many years in Primary, and in many callings in the Relief
Society, including Relief Society President, twice. She
loved to serve, and it is said that she was often the first
to meet and welcome new people into the ward.
She is survived by her husband, JH, and by her children,
Michael (Nola Smith), Janet (Clarke Garn), Debra (Pat Holman),
Diane (Kirk Stovall), Paul, Jeanne (Kalyn Lloyd), Caroline
(Lansing Smith), and Linda (Douglas Fillmore), 36 grandchildren,
and 84 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings,
Boyd (Patricia Clark), Dale (Gloria Nelson), Morris (Peggy
Henrie), Eva Adela, Leone (Ross Smith) and Claire, and granddaughter
Page Stovall Cahoon, grandson, Tanner Smith and great grandson
