Derek John Hilliker
1987 ~ 2017

Derek John Hilliker, age 29, was freed from a long battle with addiction on the evening of January 2, 2017.

Derek was born June 17, 1987 in Brigham City, Utah. He is the son of Todd and Becky Hilliker. Brent and Teri Roundy were also influential in his life as second parents. Derek lived in Texas, Maryland; Germany; and New York while his father was in the service.

He is a graduate of American Fork High School and attended UVU and Weber State College. He was employed as an order selector for Associated Foods in Ogden.

Derek truly loved his sons, Tayson and Luke. Derek was known by his friends and associates as having a sense of humor, fun-loving, personable, and able to make friends easily. He knew how to work and was willing to work at more than one job at a time.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Tyson (Ft. Lewis, Washington); two sons Tayson Sumsion and Luke Hilliker (Payson); step brother, Colten (Ogden); grandparent Barbara Hilliker (Marquette); grandparents Paul and Sue Ludwig (American Fork); along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by a grandfather, Robert Hilliker; cousin, Nicholas Ludwig; and a grandmother, Linda Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, January 9, 2017 at the American Fork North Stake Center Chapel, 975 North 60 East, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the church and again on Monday from 9:00 to 9:45 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the American Fork City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Derek Hilliker Memorial Fund at America First Credit Union for his children’s education.
