Mary Evelyn Johnson
"Granny J"
1918 ~ 2014

Mary Evelyn Johnson passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Alpine, Utah.

Evelyn was born on October 13, 1918 to James and Sadie Humphrey in Greeley, Colorado. She was the youngest of four children. She participated in track and field at Greeley High School. Evelyn was married to Glen L. Johnson, her High School sweetheart on April 28, 1940. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Southern California where together they built a highly successful company that supplied the tire industry. Glen and Evelyn traveled extensively to most of the continents throughout the world. She was a sports fan, particularly the California Angels who honored her as "Super Fan" at a home game. Evelyn supported Glen’s passion, deep sea fishing in Southern California, Mexico and Hawaii. She became a very successful road racer and won numerous awards in 5K and 10K races throughout Southern California and Utah. She won the Gold Medal in her division at the Carlsbad 5000. They raised their family while residing in Anaheim, California.

Glen preceded Evelyn in death in 1984. In 2005 she moved to live close to her daughter in Alpine, Utah. Evelyn was an avid supporter of her family in their passions particularly their athletic endeavors. The love of her life has always been family. Evelyn’s fun spirit touched all that knew her. She will be greatly missed, but we rejoice that she is reunited with her husband and all who passed on before her. Glen and Evelyn had two children, Larry G. Johnson (Lynn) of Kingman, Arizona and Cheryl Lee Anson (Whitey) of Alpine, Utah. She is survived by her children, 10 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Granddaughter and was awaiting her 2nd. She was preceded in death by one Granddaughter.

The family would like to express their appreciation to her devoted care givers; Christine Penn, Sylvia Ashby, Great Grand Daughter Cassidy Anson and the staff from Encompass Hospice Care.
