Laraine Hewitt McEwan, age 55, lost her courageous battle
with cancer on January 21, 2015. Even though she was sad
to leave, we know she rejoiced in being reunited with her
son Seth and being free from her pain. We express joy in
knowing she had accomplished her purpose here and she was
a valiant example of enduring to the end.
Laurie was born in Wichita, Kansas on
December 7, 1959 to Larry and Alta Hewitt. She was the middle
of 9 children. Laurie graduated in 1978 from Wichita Heights
High School, moved to Tucson, Arizona and then Provo, Utah.
She married Bret Baum in 1983 and later divorced. She married
Steve McEwan in 1986 and later sealed in 1988 in the Salt
Lake Temple. Together they had 3 children: Twins Seth and
Kaylee, and son Landon.
Laurie worked for Signetics Corp then Acme/American
Fence Company until 1995 then became the secretary for her
husband's landscaping business. In 2009, Laurie started
working for Alpine School District and later as the Nutrition
Service Manager for Lindon Elementary.
In 2006, Laurie was diagnosed with Stage
3 Ovarian Cancer. She fought everyday and tried to live
as normal a life as she could and went into remission in
2007. In 2012, she faced a recurrence from which she would
Laurie always put the needs of others
before her own and made many sacrifices on others behalf.
She kept her sense of humor and her smile through her brave
fight and was a great example of a person who, when faced
with challenges and tragedies, relied on her faith and understanding
of our plan here on Earth to strengthen her and help her
carry on. She was faithful member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints. We know that Laurie now knows
that what she has believed in all these years is TRUE. FAMILIES
ARE FOREVER!! We are grateful to the many family, friends,
and neighbors who loved and prayed for Laurie and served
our family over the years. We want to express our deepest
appreciation and gratitude to Susie, Kristi, and Amy, along
with the other members of the IHC Hospice team for their
dedication, service and love extended to Laurie and family.
She is survived by her husband, Steve,
daughter Kaylee, and son Landon. She is also survived by
her mother, Alta and siblings: Greg, Linda, Michael, Michele,
Lisa, Lanell, Randall and Loretta. She was preceded in death
by her father Lawrence and her son, Seth. Mom, you taught
us to never give up and we look forward to the day we can
be together forever. We love you so much!
