Gwendolyn Madge Ellertson Nash
1924 ~ 2017

Dearest Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend, passed away April 22, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. She was the third of five children born to Zella Vest Ellertson and Elgy Norman Ellertson, born on December 19, 1924 in Mona, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Nash in 1979.

Madge and Bob were wed on July 23rd, 1949 in Mona Utah. They were later sealed in the Oakland, California Temple on February 26th, 1966. They resided in San Jose, California for 53 years. Madge moved to Utah for the last 9 years of her life.

Madge graduated with a B.S. from BYU in 1948 with a focus on Elementary Education and Psychology. After their marriage she and Bob moved to Los Angeles where he attended U.C.L.A. and Madge began her teaching career in Santa Monica. In 1955 they moved to San Jose, California, where Bob served as Controller for Goodwill Industries of Santa Clara County. Madge taught in the Cambrian School District for 14 years. After Bob’s death in 1979, she taught piano students for the following 29 years until her move to Utah in 2008.

Madge actively participated with the Great Books Organization for approximately 50 years, hosting in her home for at least 20 of those years. She also enjoyed her involvement with AAUW for nearly 20 years. Her special interests through the years included reading, book discussion, music and gardening. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, usually involved with the music programs.

She was cherished by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She shaped and blessed many lives. Her family will remember her for her example of faith, strength, fortitude, perseverance, always positive outlook, and her love for all.

Madge is survived by her brother, Kent Ellertson, sister, Gaye Kay, daughter, Claudia Ann Ambrose, (Richard), son, Robert Elgy Nash, (Donna) and son, William Cary Nash, (Valeria); 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Alpine North Stake Center Chapel, 1125 North Alpine Boulevard, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church prior to services. A graveside memorial and interment will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Los Gatos Memorial Park, 2255 Los Gatos Almaden Road, San Jose, California.
