Brim Nelson passed away peacefully on February 2, 2016,
surrounded by his beloved sweetheart, children and grandchildren.
He was born on January 25, 1929 to Arthur J and Margaret
Brim Nelson in Pocatello, Idaho. He married Verna Brimhall
in the Salt Lake Temple on December 29, 1958.
Donald was the favorite youngest son – the caboose
– born to a railroad man. He served in the Southern
States Mission, where he learned his love of the scriptures
and the Plan of Salvation. He was stationed in Japan in
the US Army. He graduated from BYU where he met his sweetheart,
Donald built a successful insurance and tax business, which
allowed him to take fun family trips across the country
in the family car each summer. He loved serving for many
years as the Bishop of the South Cottonwood Third Ward.
He served as a host at the MTC and 15 years as a Temple
worker in the Jordan River and Provo Temples (where he was
just released). He served 2 missions with his wife in the
Kirtland Visitors’ Center in 2001 and 2002. Donald
loved BYU and took his family to football and basketball
games over 5 decades. He loved his parents and brothers
As they passed on, he transferred all that love to his
nephews and nieces. He loved to tease and be teased and
enjoyed a good joke and funny story. He maintained many
lifelong relationships with cousins, friends and tax clients
alike – everyone was an old friend. He had an infectious
laugh, a love of the Gospel and of family, and will be greatly
Donald was united in the Spirit World with his dear son
Todd. He is survived by his wife, Verna, his son Elliott
(Carrie), daughter Margaret (Jared), son Craig (Aliesa),
son Dallin (Amy), son Donald (Amy), and daughter Emily (Brad)
plus 30 grandchildren (including Sister Matalyn Nelson in
the Nauvoo Mission), and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016
at 1:00 pm in the Sharon LDS Stake Center Chapel, 2400 North
1060 East, Provo, Utah. Family and friends may call Friday
evening from 6:00-7:00 pm at the Revere LDS Ward Chapel,
981 East Revere Circle, Salt Lake City, Utah and also at
an additional viewing on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from
11:30-12:30 pm prior to services at the Sharon Stake Center
Chapel2400 North 1060 East, Provo, Utah. Interment will
take place in at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South
Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Was born July 24, 1931 in Richmond Indiana at the home
of James Thurman Reed and Mae Euphemia Holmquist. Catherine had three
younger brothers; Robert Joseph, James Thomas, and Richard Allen Reed.
