Donald Brim Nelson
1929 ~ 2016

Donald Brim Nelson passed away peacefully on February 2, 2016, surrounded by his beloved sweetheart, children and grandchildren. He was born on January 25, 1929 to Arthur J and Margaret Brim Nelson in Pocatello, Idaho. He married Verna Brimhall in the Salt Lake Temple on December 29, 1958.

Donald was the favorite youngest son – the caboose – born to a railroad man. He served in the Southern States Mission, where he learned his love of the scriptures and the Plan of Salvation. He was stationed in Japan in the US Army. He graduated from BYU where he met his sweetheart, Verna.

Donald built a successful insurance and tax business, which allowed him to take fun family trips across the country in the family car each summer. He loved serving for many years as the Bishop of the South Cottonwood Third Ward. He served as a host at the MTC and 15 years as a Temple worker in the Jordan River and Provo Temples (where he was just released). He served 2 missions with his wife in the Kirtland Visitors’ Center in 2001 and 2002. Donald loved BYU and took his family to football and basketball games over 5 decades. He loved his parents and brothers and sisters.

As they passed on, he transferred all that love to his nephews and nieces. He loved to tease and be teased and enjoyed a good joke and funny story. He maintained many lifelong relationships with cousins, friends and tax clients alike – everyone was an old friend. He had an infectious laugh, a love of the Gospel and of family, and will be greatly missed.

Donald was united in the Spirit World with his dear son Todd. He is survived by his wife, Verna, his son Elliott (Carrie), daughter Margaret (Jared), son Craig (Aliesa), son Dallin (Amy), son Donald (Amy), and daughter Emily (Brad) plus 30 grandchildren (including Sister Matalyn Nelson in the Nauvoo Mission), and five great grandchildren.
