Verna Louise Lloyd Newell, beloved wife, and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully with her family by her side

Verna was born in Soda Springs, Idaho to Anna McClellan Lloyd and Parley Lea Lloyd was welcomed into a family of ten children. She spent her childhood on a farm in Central, Idaho.She attended elementary and junior high school in Grace, Idaho, and later attended school at BYU. There she met Neil O. Newell whom she married in the Logan Temple on April 17, 1950. Together they successfully raised seven children in Orem, Utah.

She held many callings in the LDS Church including, president of the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women’s organizations. She also served in the community as a PTSA president.

Her lifelong sweetheart was taken from her in 1986. Three years later following brain surgery, she was left confined to a wheelchair for 28 years. Although her body struggled, her attitude was always one of courage, optimism, love, and concern for others. She was a positive inspiration to all who knew her. She was ever an example of patience, love, and enduring well through the many joys and hardships of life.

Surviving are her children: LouAnn Christensen (John Craig), Neil Kim (Ariane), Gaylene Bodine (Larry), Lloyd (Karmel), Debra, Arthur (Jean), and Peggy Joy Payne(Kent): 35 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband Neil, grandchildren: Carrie, Sarah, Robin and John Christensen; and her ten siblings.

The family expresses appreciation to the many individuals who lovingly cared for mother through the years including the Charleston Assisted Living aides and staff, Envision Hospice, LDS branch members, and family and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Cedar Hills West LDS Stake Center Chapel, 4580 West Cedar Hills Drive, Cedar Hills, Utah. Family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be at Orem City Cemetery.
