1940 ~ 2013
Eugene Ockler passed through the veil May 6, 2013 at his
home in Highland, Utah.
He was born in 1940 to Lloyd Frederick Ockler and Mildred
Jane Behling in Menomonie, Wisconsin. At an early age he
moved to Missoula, Montana where he was raised through high
school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and for over 3 years
served his country. Coming home from the military, he then
made his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Margaret
(Peggy) Avonne Myers and together they raised 6 children
in Orem and Highland, Utah.
Darrel worked for the United States Postal Service for
30 years, retiring in 1995. Along the way he established
himself as an accomplished wood sculptor, winning awards
at a state level and at Death Valley Art Shows. After retiring
he continued to refine his talents and became an accomplished
luthier– maker of stringed instruments – violins
Darrel was preceded in death by his wife Peggy. While working
at the Provo Temple he met and married Roma Jean McEwan.
He is survived by his wife Roma and their children Jim (Nanette)
Ockler, Leslie (Garry) Clements, Debbie (Kevin) Calaway,
Julie Ockler, Brad (Neely) McEwan, Kenneth (Shelleen) Ockler,
Bryan (Kristy) McEwan and Rachel (Jack) Anderson. He is
also survived by 38 grand and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Friday, May 10, 2013 at 12:00
pm at the Highland 31st Ward Chapel, 11162 North Alpine
Highway, Highland, Utah. A viewing for family and friends
will be held at Thursday evening May 9, 2013 from 6:00-8:00
pm at the Highland 31st Ward Chapel and also Friday morning
from 10:00-11:30 am prior to the services. Interment to
follow the funeral at the American Fork Cemetery
