Cornwell Patten was born January 9, 1927 in Payson, Utah
to Charles Henry and Sofia Wilhemina Nielsen Patten. He
died December 10, 2013 of complications from a fall.
He graduated from Payson High School and Brigham Young
University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political
Science. He loved history and current events and spent his
entire life reading the newspaper every day.
He served in the United States Navy.
He married Norma Thatcher June 20, 1947, in Payson, Utah.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
He worked at Geneva Steel for 36 years from 1950 to 1986.
He served several years as a Stake High Councilman and
financial auditor in both ward and stake callings.
He served on the Orem City Planning Commission and was
a Provo Temple worker.
He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great grand children
and loved family parties and spent his life planning and
organizing family reunions. His hobbies included cross word
puzzles, hand held games, his yard, flowers and garden.
He is survived by six children, Peggy (Mark) Burdett, Dennis
(Joyce) Patten, Janice Ivie, Phil (Ronelle) Patten, all
of Orem, Linda (Mark) Hales, Pleasant Grove, and Steve (Diane)
Patten, Lindon, three sisters, Dune Lazenby, Santa Paula,
California; Helen (Erv) Davis, and Florence Zahlmann, Provo,
brother Boyd (Adelaid) Patten, St. George, 28 grandchildren,
and 31 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his wife, his parents, son Ricky Max, son-in-law James Ivie,
six brothers, Melvin, George, Ray, Reed, Harold and Rex
Patten, six sisters Margaret Gasparac, Ida Fay Crook, Emma
Patten, Maude Juber, Lillian Patten, Iona Ellsworth, and
grandchildren Katie and William Burdett.
We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Peter Duros,
and the doctors and staff at Timpanogos Hospital for their
kind and loving care to our Dad and his family.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 12,
2013 at 11:00 am in the Suncrest 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 90
North 600 West, Orem, Utah. Family and friends are invited
to a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the
church. Interment Orem City Cemetery.
