Marie Johns Pickering, beloved daughter, wife, and mother
passed away November 27, 2015 at her home in Alpine, Utah.
Naomi was born on December 30, 1919 in Salt Lake City,
Utah to Richard Stanley and Rose Anna Johns. She attended
schools in Salt Lake City, and graduated from Granite High
School. While attending the University of Utah, Naomi met
Ivor Pickering. They were married on June 20, 1942 and were
sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Naomi graduated from
the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education.
After a brief experience of teaching school, Ivor and Naomi
began their family. They were happy to have born to them
two sons and two daughters.
Naomi’s life revolved around raising their children,
supporting Ivor’s work, her involvement with the LDS
Church, and her love of music. Ivor’s professional
association with Kennecott Copper resulted in their living
in Maryland, Arizona, and New Jersey before returning to
Utah. An extended residence in St. George, Utah preceded
their move to the present home in Alpine, Utah. Naomi’s
life was closely associated with the LDS Church. She faithfully
served in numerous positions in which she influenced her
family and many others for good. Ivor and Naomi served a
full time mission at the Chicago, Illinois LDS Temple.
She is survived by her husband Ivor, three of her four
children: Richard, Patricia, and Kay, eighteen grandchildren,
and 44 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
their son John, her parents and her four brothers and one
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015
at 11:00 am at the Mountainville LDS Chapel, 165 North 100
East, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:30
to 10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will
be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery, Spanish Fork, Utah.
