Ivor G. Pickering
1916 ~ 2016

Ivor Granville Pickering passed away quietly on February 29, 2016 at his home in Alpine, Utah at 99 years of age. He was born in Bingham Canyon, Utah on June 1, 1916 to Stephen Davies Pickering and Louisa Mellen. He graduated from Bingham High School and worked in the Utah Copper mine in Bingham after high school graduation working his way through the University of Utah where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Ivor began his post-college employment at the Bingham Mine in the Geological Department. He was introduced to his future wife, Naomi Marie Johns by a mutual friend, Bill Labrum. They were married on June 20, 1942 in Murray, Utah and were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had two sons and two daughters born to them.

Ivor had a very successful career working for Kennecott Copper Corporation his entire professional life. He progressed rapidly with experience in all phases of the company. He was always interested in understanding all aspects of each assignment and was known for his broad knowledge of the copper industry. In addition to his technical knowledge, he also possessed admirable administrative and executive skills. His employment took him and his family to Maryland, Arizona and New Jersey before returning to Utah where he served as Sr. Vice President-Operations for Kennecott Minerals Company.

Ivor joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 6, 1942 just before marrying Naomi. He remained a faithful member of the Church all of his life and held many responsible church positions. He and Naomi served a full time mission at the Chicago, Illinois LDS Temple in 1985.

He is survived by his brother, Steve and three of his four children: Richard, Patricia and Kay, 18 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Naomi and son John and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in the Matterhorn LDS Chapel, 285 North Matterhorn Drive, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery, Spanish Fork, Utah.
