Pulley Prisbrey Hood Proctor
1924 ~ 2015
Pulley Prisbrey Hood Proctor, beloved Mother, Grandmother,
and friend passed on to her next big adventure on 31January
2015. She departed this life peacefully with many of her
family at her bedside at Bel Aire Senior Living Center in
American Fork, Utah. The family wishes to express their
appreciation to those who assisted with her care at Bel
Aire and to Utah Hospice Nurses for their considerate assistance
with her passing and after care.
Afton was born on 14May 1924 to Frank Melvin Pulley and
Emma Elvira Palmer of American Fork, Utah, and was raised
and educated in American Fork, Utah with her11siblings –
Melvin Frank Pulley (Bessie Berle James); Douglas Glen Pulley
(Gladys Tippetts); Ila May Pulley (died as a toddler); Elmo
Pulley (died as infant); Betty Larue Pulley (Grant Burton
Bennion); Kenneth George Pulley (Doris Marie Dickerson);
Dolores Pulley (Clarence Arthur Rinehart); Emmett LaVell
Pulley (died at the age of 3); Merrill Lewis Pulley (Sharon
Cox); and Richard Thornton Pulley (Dixie Northup).
She was married first on 28 February 1941 to Maxwell Henry
Prisbrey. They were parents of the following children: Larry
Max Prisbrey(Elizabeth Sykora);Melvin Jay Prisbrey(Marguerite
[Peggy] Hoover); Afton (Taffy) Prisbrey (John Lasanich);
Jesse Lynn Prisbrey (Carolyn Louise Smith); and Arlo Elaine
Prisbrey (Ray Webb).Maxwell Henry Prisbrey died on December
9, 1949 as a result of a mining accident in Lark, Utah.
Afton married second on 23 November 1951 to DeVoe Hood.
They were parents of Dean Hood (Brenda) and Linda Jean Hood
(Gerald J. Ewell). Afton and DeVoe were later divorced.
She then was married on 24 November 1965 to Thomas Ronald
Proctor and became step-mother to Julie Ann Proctor (Jerry
Johnson); Rodney Proctor(Olivia); Carol Dawn Proctor (Ronald
Robertson); Thomas B. Proctor (Kelli); and Glade Proctor
(Vickie). Afton was a loving, devoted wife, companion and
friend to Ron for over forty-seven years.
Afton was well known for her outstanding talent as a cook
and baker. She was an avid reader and loved to tell tales
of her early life and heritage. Afton spent many hours as
she accompanied Ron in his truck when he was working for
Utah County. She loved to play board games and cards with
her children and grandchildren and with Ron and their friends
and gathering her family and friends around her for get-togethers.
She and Ron loved to fish and travel and had many adventures
together including a hot-air balloon ride. After Ron retired
they worked together tending steers for an area rancher
and improving their home and property in Pleasant Grove.
Afton spent many hours gathering and organizing her family
genealogical records and assisting others with their genealogies.
She has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions of responsibility,
including Relief Society Counselor and enjoyed a service
mission with Ron at the Bishop’s Storehouse Cannery.
She is survived by 18 grandchildren and 20 plus great-grandchildren;
23 step-grandchildren and 49+ step-great-grandchildren;
and several great-greats. She is preceded in death by her
husband; her parents; all her siblings; a daughter, Arlo
Elaine (Prisbrey) Webb; a great-granddaughter, Tianna Daniella
Loveridge; and step-daughters Julie Ann(Proctor) Johnson
and Carol Dawn(Proctor) Robertson.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2015,
at 3:00 pm at the American Fork City Cemetery, 600 North
Center Street, American Fork, Utah.
