Shirley Schulthess Rice
1927 ~ 2016

Shirley Schulthess Rice (Openshaw) of South Jordan passed away surrounded by her family Tuesday December 6, 2016. Shirley was born October 1, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to Heber Schulthess and Alice Foote.

Shirley married Sargent L Rice (1921-1994) in 1955 and together raised their family Kathleen Taylor (John), Maryl Lee (Dewain), James Rice (1950-1968), Melissa Means (Bryan), Rebecca Crane (Marshall), and Rosalind Hilkey (Michael). In 1995 she married Levi Openshaw (1916-2007). Shirley is survived by 30 grandchildren and 73 great grandchildren.

Shirley grew up with her older brother Dave and younger brother Richard in Highland Park, California. She spent most of her married life in La Canada, California where she sold Real Estate for 30 years. Shirley served in many capacities in the LDS church where she put her fervent testimony of the gospel in action. Shirley taught gospel principles by living a life committed to love and charity. Shirley’s true legacy is left with the many friends, family, and once strangers made friends who she touched with her generosity, service, and love. Shirley was her family’s greatest advocate and consistently declared her ultimate joy will forever be found in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, Dec 10, 2016 at the South Jordan 5th LDS Ward Chapel, 2550 West 9800 South, South Jordan, Utah. Family and friends may call from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the church prior to services.

Interment – Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park – Bluffdale, Utah
