Nedra Lynel Román

Nedra Lynel Román died March 15, 2016, in American Fork, Utah. She was born May 20, 1936, in Richfield, Utah. She was the second daughter of Urban Van Stewart and Amy LaVera Hunt.

She attended South Sevier High School in Monroe, Snow College in Ephraim (at age 17), and Brigham Young University in Provo, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1965. She worked in Vernal Utah as a social worker for the Welfare Department. In 1971, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she was an analyst for Social Security. Previously, she lived with her first husband Kenneth Miles Gurr in San Diego, Hollywood, and Salt Lake City. She lived in Kansas City and Orem with her husband Luis Alberto Román. She has lived in Provo for the last 20 years.

She is survived by her sisters Ranae MacKay (Sandy) and Nancy Lark Stewart (Oregon); her brothers John Wayne Stewart (Mary) (Arizona), Eric Stewart (Debra) (Washington) and Dennis Stewart (Sherry) (Oregon); her sons Carlos Gurr (Helen)(Cedar Hills) and Kendyl Román (Karen)(California); 14 grandchildren Michael Anderson, Lauren MKina(Abel), Caleb Anderson (Kara), Elizabeth Gillis (Christopher), Danielle Chancellor-Checketts (Matt), Justin Gurr(Amber), Adam Gurr (Melisa), Natalie Gurr, Kimberly Smith(Kimble), Katelyn Gurr, Chris Finken (Tanya), Kathleen Cannon (Andrew), Reece Román(Sarah), Joel Román; and 30 great-grandchildren Abel Jr. MKina, Martha Rose MKina, Ephraim MKina, Faith Anderson, Kathleen Gillis, Corben Chancellor, Caleb Chancellor, Cassandra Chancellor, Caitilyn Chancellor, Jayden Checketts, Conner Checketts, Reagan Checketts, Kyndee Checkets, Brynlee Checketts, Colton Checketts, Jayden Gurr, Joshua Gurr, Austin Gurr, Avin Gurr, August Gurr, Johnny Gurr, Ellianna Gurr, Guinevere Smith, Juliette Smith, Melia Finken, Amber Finken, Benson Finken, Heidi Finken, Charlotte Cannon, Eleanor Cannon, Teddy Cannon, Milana Román.

She is preceded in death by her parents in 1986 and 2005 (Provo); husband Luis in 1995 (Orem); brothers David Stewart in 1954 (Monroe) and Larry Stewart in 2011 (Gloria) (Sigurd); her son Leon K Román in 1997 (Wilma)(Provo).

She loved the Temple and spent much of her life helping others with Family History. She was active for many years in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the North Park 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 1066 West 200 North Provo, Utah, . Family and friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Monroe City Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
