Maria Julieta Milheiro de Sousa Gomes dos Santos
1929 ~ 2017

Maria Julieta Santos passed away in her home in Highland, Utah on Thursday night, November 16th, 2017 at the age of 88. She remained positive and vibrant until the very end.

Julieta was born October 31st, 1929 in Lisbon, Portugal to Manuel de Sousa Zacarias and Deolinda de Jesus Milheiro de Sousa. Julieta lived her life full of adventure. At age 14, she met the love of her life, Amarino Santos. She later moved with her parents to Mozambique at age 18. Remaining true to their love, Julieta and Amarino wrote back and forth for another 4 years.

Once Julieta returned to Lisbon, Amarino and Julieta were married. They remained married for 51 years until Amarino’s death in 2003. They had 3 beautiful children, Cesar, Marina, and Elizabeth. After 6 years of marriage, they decided to raise their family in Brazil. There, Julieta joined the LDS church. To ensure their love story lasted into the eternities, Julieta was sealed to her husband in the Sao Paulo Temple in 1981.

Once their second grandson, Nathaniel, was born, they moved to the U.S. in 1991. Her family was her biggest joy. She lived with her daughter, Beth, until her death, acting as a second mother to her grandchildren. She spent her life as an unofficial missionary for the LDS church, teaching her grandchildren to live in hope and sharing the gospel every chance she had.

Julieta lived long enough to see her first great-grandchild, Easton, born. She is survived by her daughter, Beth, and her four grandchildren, Rodrigo, Nathaniel (Alissa), Gabriella (David) and Karina. They will always remember her spunk and love for pictures, as well as her generosity and determination.

Funeral services for Julieta will be held on Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Westfield LDS Church, 6411 West 11800 North, Highland, Utah. Family and friends are welcomed to come celebrate Julieta’s life during her viewings that will be held Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the church and on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services. Graveside services for Julieta will take place in the Highland City Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
