Shyrl Ben Savage
1934 ~ 2017

Shyrl Ben Savage, 83 passed away in his home in Tucson, Arizona early Friday morning, December 1, 2017. He was born on March 6, 1934 in Bicknell, Utah to Jesse Savage and Leah Baker.

He married his beloved wife, Joan Mouritsen Savage in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 25th, 1958. Together they raised 5 children, Steven (Lorraine), Lisa (Ray) Gundy, Holly (Glenn) Peterson, Taralyn (Jay) Sorenson, and John (Mary). He was also blessed to have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He spent two years serving in the US Army in Germany where he met his wife. He frequently left the base without leave in order to spend time courting her and eventually proposed in the Neuschwanstein Castle.

Shyrl was active in the LDS Church and served three missions including the British Isles in his youth, the Chicago, Illinois North Mission, and the Tucson Cannery with his wife later in life. He was also a great supporter of the church sports programs.

He worked for IBM in San Jose, California for 32 years as a computer programmer and project manager. He worked as a contractor for SAIC for a few years until he decided to remain retired. He was an avid golfer and won many tournaments. His only complaint was when his unusual name would result in golfing trophies with skirts on them.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, his brother Kent Savage(of Heber, Utah), his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Thelma Savage, Roween Savage, and Jaleen Taylor of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 8th at the Canyon View 10th LDS Ward Chapel, 762 East 1200 North, Orem Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Highland City Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.warenski.com

We will all miss Shyrl’s stories and good humor and look forward to being reunited with him. Until that day we will hold his memory in our hearts.
