Wayman Scholes, 76, of Alpine, Utah, passed away on August
30, 2017 at Utah Valley Hospital following complications
from surgery to remove a brain tumor.
Pete was born in Logan, Utah on May 31, 1941. He grew up
in American Fork, Utah where he had many friends and family.
He played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track
in high school. He was friendly and well-loved by his friends
and classmates. Pete graduated from American Fork High School,
where he served as Student Body President. He had the opportunity
to attend several different universities on athletic scholarship,
and ultimately, he chose to attend Brigham Young University.
Pete served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the California Mission. Upon
his return, he continued his education, graduating from
BYU. He loved everything BYU, and kept himself informed
of his beloved BYU Cougar football team.
Pete met the love of his life at BYU, marrying Maryland
Jacklin on December 19, 1963; they were sealed in the Salt
Lake Temple and were married 53 years. Pete worked as a
Computer System Analyst and Sales Manager for several years.
He was a hard worker, a friend to all, and showed kindness
in all he did. He enjoyed all sports, including outdoor
pursuits with his family, church ball, and racquetball.
He followed all BYU sports and cheered for his Cougars at
every opportunity. Pete was also active in the LDS church
serving as Bishop twice, both at BYU and in his home ward
in Orem, as a High Councilor, and in many other capacities.
Pete is survived by his wife, Maryland, his three daughters,
Kimberly Littler (James), Kristin Arnold (Bradley), and
Katy Hahne (Jared), his brother and two sisters, Harold
Scholes (Theresa), Marilyn Bateman (Merrill), and Vickie
Austin (Edwin), and his nine grandchildren, James, Alexis,
Ellerie, Jacob, Isaac, Elijah, Alexander, Christian, and
Joshua, and other family and friends. Pete is preceded
in death by his parents, Harold Burnham Scholes and Orale
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September
8, 2017 at the Fort Canyon LDS Chapel, 890 North Heritage
Hills Drive, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call on
Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the
Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork,
Utah, and again on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am
at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the
Alpine City Cemetery.
