Donna Smith
1929 ~ 2012

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Donna Smith, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2012 in American Fork, Utah.

Donna Mae Crockett Smith was born in Pocatello, Idaho on May 5, 1929. Her parents were Squire Franklin and Elizabeth Bailey Crockett. She spent much of her childhood at her grandparents’ home as she was the first grandchild on either side of the family. She had an idyllic childhood. She had two brothers, Eldon, who passed away at birth and Rod Crockett.

Most of her school years were spent in Pocatello. After she graduated, she went onto Idaho State University and met Verald Alton Smith in the spring of 1947. They were married on May 29, 1949 and were devoted to one another until Smitty’s death in 2003. They lived in Sunnyvale, California where Smitty worked for Lockheed Aerospace and Donna worked for Morris Plan. Three children blessed their marriage: Jacqueline Kay De Young, Randall Eldon Smith and Sandra Lee Phillips. In 1988 they moved from California and bought their dream home in Alpine, Utah to be with their family and grandchildren.

Donna loved people. She loved to talk. She loved to shop and decorate her home. She loved traveling with Smitty and they spent much of their time after retirement traveling together to over 14 foreign countries and most of the United States. She loved being surrounded by her friends and family. She easily made friends. Her life has been one of service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She and Smitty were sealed in the Jordan River Temple in 1992. This was one of Donna’s happiest days as now she was sealed to her family. She was a fourth generation member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Donna was a very giving person and never said a bad word about anyone. Every girl was "pretty" to Donna. She was legendary for her gifts to people especially children. She will be missed by all her knew her.

She is survived by a brother; Rod Crockett (Cathy) of Orem. Three children, Sandra (Von Phillips) Highland; Randy (Janmarie) Orem and Jacqueline (Bruce Deyoung) Saint George, 13 Grandchildren, Richard De Young, Shelley (Ryan Cottam ) John De Young (Alicia), Lorien (Jake Hall), Dani (Dave Hoagland), Scott Phillips (Ashlee), Shelby (Tom Andra), Haleigh Phillips, Tom Smith, Sean Smith, AJ Smith (Mica), Andrea (Jake Hansen), and 18 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Highland 34th LDS Ward Chapel, 11605 North 6000 West, Highland, Utah. Family and friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment, Alpine City Cemetery.
