Brent Soelberg
1944 ~ 2014

Cornell Brent Soelberg passed away at home with his family by his side on Monday, October 6, 2014. Brent was born on September 26, 1944, to Cornell E. and Virginia Clement Soelberg in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he grew up and attended school. He learned at an early age to work hard with his father and brothers and extended family on the family dry farm. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1962 and attended BYU, prior to serving an LDS mission in the East Central States Mission.

Brent married Cheryl Jeanne Thomson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 2, 1967. He completed his bachelor’s degree in zoology/chemistry and his master’s degree in virology at BYU. He and his young family moved to American Fork, Utah in 1972, where he began his professional career in microbiology and genetic research at the Utah State Developmental Center. He also worked as a microbiologist for Richards Laboratories and IHC and retired from the State of Utah in 2002. Brent then continued to work with his sons at Soelberg Industries, a family manufacturing business.

Brent loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter in his younger years, and loved camping and spending time in the mountains. He and Cheryl snow-skied and water-skied with their children as they were growing up. Radio-controlled model airplanes were his favorite hobby for many years until he discovered golf. He also loved animals, especially horses and German Shepherds, and he enjoyed horseback riding. Any time spent with his family was his very favorite. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served faithfully in many callings throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and is survived by his sweetheart, Cheryl, his sister, Janice (Richard) Pedersen, his brothers, Doug (Cheri), Brad, and Kent (Shari), and his seven children: Jennifer Chatwin (Ryan), Kirk (Natalie), Steve (Christie), Holly Olsen (Steve), Craig, Michael (Yvette), and Scott (Lana), and nineteen amazing grandchildren and one on the way.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 13, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the American Fork LDS 20th Ward Chapel, 825 East 500 North, American Fork. Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, and at an additional viewing on Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will take place in the Highland City Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Joe Murdock and Laci, Katie, and Laurie for years of loving kindness, and Kristy, Marianne, Hollie, and Matt from CNS Hospice for their tender care of Brent and his family.
