Brent Soelberg passed away at home with his family by his
side on Monday, October 6, 2014. Brent was born on September
26, 1944, to Cornell E. and Virginia Clement Soelberg in
Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he grew up and attended school.
He learned at an early age to work hard with his father
and brothers and extended family on the family dry farm.
He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1962 and attended
BYU, prior to serving an LDS mission in the East Central
Brent married Cheryl Jeanne Thomson in the Idaho Falls
LDS Temple on June 2, 1967. He completed his bachelor’s
degree in zoology/chemistry and his master’s degree
in virology at BYU. He and his young family moved to American
Fork, Utah in 1972, where he began his professional career
in microbiology and genetic research at the Utah State Developmental
Center. He also worked as a microbiologist for Richards
Laboratories and IHC and retired from the State of Utah
in 2002. Brent then continued to work with his sons at Soelberg
Industries, a family manufacturing business.
Brent loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter in his
younger years, and loved camping and spending time in the
mountains. He and Cheryl snow-skied and water-skied with
their children as they were growing up. Radio-controlled
model airplanes were his favorite hobby for many years until
he discovered golf. He also loved animals, especially horses
and German Shepherds, and he enjoyed horseback riding. Any
time spent with his family was his very favorite. He had
a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served
faithfully in many callings throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents
and is survived by his sweetheart, Cheryl, his sister, Janice
(Richard) Pedersen, his brothers, Doug (Cheri), Brad, and
Kent (Shari), and his seven children: Jennifer Chatwin (Ryan),
Kirk (Natalie), Steve (Christie), Holly Olsen (Steve), Craig,
Michael (Yvette), and Scott (Lana), and nineteen amazing
grandchildren and one on the way.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 13, 2014,
at 11:00 a.m. at the American Fork LDS 20th Ward Chapel,
825 East 500 North, American Fork. Friends and family may
call Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Warenski Funeral
Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, and at an additional
viewing on Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services
at the church. Interment will take place in the Highland
The family wishes to thank Dr. Joe Murdock and Laci, Katie,
and Laurie for years of loving kindness, and Kristy, Marianne,
Hollie, and Matt from CNS Hospice for their tender care
of Brent and his family.
