Allen Turner was born June 8, 1922 in Hoquiam, Washington,
the son of Norris Earl and Olive Mae (Downey) Turner. He
grew up in Humptulips, Washington and graduated from Quinault
High School where he was active in sports and played flute
in the band. While attending Grays Harbor Jr. College he
enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served at several bases
in the United States during World War II.
After the war he married the love of his life, Ruth Nadine
Rowe, in Shelton, Washington on May 11, 1946.Their first
home was in Aberdeen, WA where he continued his education
on the GI Bill and worked at a gas station. Upon graduating
from Grays Harbor JC, they moved to Shelton where he worked
for Simpson Timber Company in accounting and finance. Here
their four children were born: Terri (John) Keene (Deadwood,
South Dakota), Diane (Tom) Marshall (Carson City, Nevada)
Bob (Hiroko) Turner (Saratoga Springs, Utah) and Janine
(Kris) Henry (Klamath Falls, Oregon). He was a member of
Active Club, Bayshore Golf Club and the United Methodist
In 1970 a promotion required a move to Arcata, California
where he continued to work for Simpson until his retirement
in 1977. Bob and Ruth moved to Gilbert, Arizona where they
were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints. They were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple
in 1992. The couple then traveled and lived in several states
including Washington and Utah finally settling at The Charleston
of Cedar Hills, Utah.
Bob returned to his heavenly home February 23, 2017 in
American Fork, UT at the age of 94. He was preceded in death
by his parents and his sisters, Lefa Allsup and Imra Preston.
He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 70+ years, his sister,
Dorothy Kain (South Bend, Washington), his children, 15
grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
