“Jakie” Ann Wells, passed away August 16, 2015
in Holladay, Utah after a courageous battle with pancreatic
She was Born February 3, 1936 in Berkeley, CA to Charles
Jurgensen and Claudia Dewsnup. Jakie married Richard Bruce
Wells March 6, 1956 in Long Beach, CA where they began their
wonderful life together. Their marriage was later solemnized
in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on July 15, 1978. In 1970
they moved from Long Beach to Santa Maria, CA to raise their
family. Richard passed away May, 3, 2008.
Jakie was a good student through high school and decided
to further her education attending Long Beach City College,
where she met Richard. After two years of college Jakie
went to work for McDonnell Douglas Corporation in Long Beach.
In 1960, she began her career as a homemaker and mother
to four children.
Jakie was a sweet, kind, warm-hearted person who was always
looking for ways to help and serve family, friends and those
she came in contact with. She was a peace maker and was
always positive in every situation.
A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints, Jakie served faithfully in many callings. She loved
working with the youth and especially enjoyed a Church Educational
System mission at the Santa Maria Institute of Religion
of the LDS Church with Richard. Jakie and Richard also served
one week a month for several years at the Los Angeles temple.
She enjoyed the many friendships and life-long relationships
the Church provided.
Jakie was a talented artist and seamstress but was known
for her excellent cooking skills, which were celebrated
at the holidays, family gatherings and weekends at Lake
Nacimiento at the family lake house.
Although Jakie loved serving others, her greatest joy was
her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jakie is survived by children Janet W. Kilpatrick of Murray,
UT; Richard B. Wells II of Santa Maria, CA; Eric J. Wells
of San Luis Obispo, CA; and Chad S. Wells of Sandy, UT;
fifteen grandchildren and five great Grandchildren and her
brother Jon Jurgensen of Corona, CA. She was preceded in
death by her parents; husband; and brother Phillip Jurgensen.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015
at 10:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
located at 1219 Oak Knoll Road, Santa Maria, California.
Interment will be at Santa Maria Cemetery. Funeral services
are under the direction of Warenski Funeral Home, American
