Lawrence Gayle Layne was born November 22, 1946 in Lewiston Utah, to Garald and Doris (Palmer) Layne. As a young child his family relocated to Montana, where he grew up learning the joy and value of life on a ranch alongside his parents and his nine brothers and sisters.

He served his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mexico. After his mission he joined the United States Army Medical Corp, where he served for twelve years before retiring in 1978.  During that period, he met the love of his life, Dorria Page, while stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington. After Larry asked Dorria, “are you gonna marry me or what?”, they were married on February 1st, 1975 in the Idaho Falls Temple in Idaho. In 1978, He moved to Utah with his wife and three young children to attend BYU, where he graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor’s in Nursing Sciences. He worked for Intermountain Healthcare for 31 years, retiring in 2011.

Larry lived his life to the fullest, even to his last day. He was filled with joy, and he shared that happiness with everyone. Anyone who met him, loved him. He had a love of knowledge and the pursuit of learning, with an unbelievable talent for recalling all he learned at the snap of your fingers. He worked hard, gardening, building, fixing- he always had ten projects at once. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and seeing all the beauty that is out there. He was wise, always with the best advice given from the wealth of his experience that he was happy to share. But more than anything else, more than any accomplishment, award, or recognition he achieved in his life, he considered his children and grandchildren his greatest achievement and most beloved treasure. He always put his family first and his love for them was bottomless and inexhaustible.

He is survived by his wife, Dorria Lynne (Page)Layne, his six children: Minette Christine Layne, Kimberly Layne Welch (m. Mark Welch), Justin Lawrence Layne (m. Katie Flygare), Lori Jean Layne, Charles Garald Layne (m. Kimberly Patterson), and Kevin Layne and his twelve grandchildren (“The Dirty Dozen”), who for him were his greatest treasure and biggest joy.
