Charles “Chuck” J. Hobbs
Charles “Chuck” Jesse Hobbs passed away at his home on Friday, November 20, 2020 after a short battle with Glioblastoma Mulitforme Brain Cancer. He was born to Harold and Jessie Hobbs in Murray, Utah on March 28, 1941.
Chuck spent most of his early years on a small farm in Riverton, Utah. It was there that he learned the value of hard work. He spent his early hours on the farm helping his “Pa”, and after school he would work late hours doing manual labor for the Kennecott Copper Mine. This hard work allowed him to pay cash for a new Ford pickup and buy his first home by age 20. Although he worked hard, he also played hard, and loved to ride bulls in the local rodeos. Soon after High School, he joined the Army Reserve. His example of hard work has forever been instilled in his children and grandchildren.
He married Marilee Turner June 7, 1963. Together they raised 5 children. Even though their marriage ended in 1992, their respect and friendship continued throughout his life. Later that year, Chuck reconnected with a high school friend, and his forever sweetheart, Nola May Page. They were married November 13, 1992.
Chuck drove truck for several commercial truck lines, and also as an independent operator for the majority of his working career.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending his time with his boys hunting, and fishing. Later in life, he loved attending mountain man rendezvous where he was known as Silver Fox. He also loved gardening, making custom furniture, wood carving, film developing and photography, and watching a good movie with his sweetheart by his side.
Chuck was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He found joy in his calling as a Scout Master, he made many lifelong friendships as he ministered to his home teaching families, and as a greeter to his ward family each week on Sundays. He and Nola served a service mission at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Lindon Utah. They truly enjoyed this experience together.
He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, older Sister Shirley (Don) Stallings and Son Destry (Deanne) Hobbs. He is survived by his Wife Nola, Brother Allen (Debbie) Hobbs, Children: Derrilee (Larry) Thomas, Brandon (Brittany) Hobbs, Kami (Rolando) Pereira, Kim (Ben) Bess, Mike (Shaunna) Woodward, Tanna (John) Farnsworth, and Derrick (Cindy) Woodward. Together, Chuck and Nola have 29 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Everything Chuck did was for his dear wife and family. He was rough on the outside but very tenderhearted. His life experiences taught him humility, and the importance of communicating his love.
Our family has experienced many tender mercies in these past few weeks leading up to Chuck’s passing. One of which was a moment of clarity in which Chuck was able to offer a prayer to his Heavenly Father. His faith, humility, and love of God and family were evident. We will forever treasure this memory.
When we lift a hunting rifle, carving knife, or a Dr. Pepper we will always think of him.
