Carol Hales Lamoreaux
Carol Lee Whitaker Hales Lamoreaux passed away peacefully in the early morning hours, which was her favorite time of day, January 17th, 2021 at her home in Alpine, Utah. She was born January 22nd, 1941 in Yakima, Washington to parents Ballard James Whitaker and Lydia Berg Whitaker. Carol was the second of seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents Ballard James Whitaker, Lydia Berg (Whitaker) and 4 of her siblings, David Lynn Whitaker, Frederick Eugene Whitaker, Albert LeRoy Whitaker and Ronald Dean Whitaker. Also preceding her in death was her first husband Carlos P Hales, her second husband Ray W. Lamoreaux, her oldest daughter Corinne (Bret) Hardy, her youngest daughter Shannon Dora Hales and two great grandchildren Telaai and Khrii Wiberg.
Carol was raised on a farm in Yakima, Washington. She attended grade school in Wapato, Washington and 6th-8th grade at Castle Vale Elementary in Yakima, Washington. Carol graduated from Naches Valley High School in June of 1959 and moved to Utah to live with her grandparents in American Fork. She met her sweetheart Carl while living in American Fork, and not long after they met, they were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in 1961. They were blessed with 8 beautiful children. Carl was diagnosed with cancer after 13 years of marriage and passed away in 1974, leaving Carol alone with 8 children. Carol was single for eight and a half years and then was remarried to Ray W. Lamoreaux. Ray passed away in 2006.
Carol was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout her life she served in the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations. She attended the Temple on a regular basis and loved spending time there. She was a woman of strong faith who shared her testimony of the gospel up until her last breath, and serving others was one of her greatest gifts and joys.
Carol had a love of baking, sewing, gardening, and most of the time she donated her projects and baked goods to others. She also loved attending all the events that her family was involved in.
Most of all, her family was her greatest joy! Carol was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Many holidays were spent at her home in American Fork, gathering in the yard with her family. She opened her home and heart to all. If you were in need, she was there to offer anything and everything she had. She had a family history room in her home in American Fork, and then when she moved to her cottage in Alpine, UT at the River Meadows Independent Living, the family history room moved with her.
Each day you would find her sitting at her computer updating Family Search with stories, pictures, and events of each of her ancestors, and her posterity as a new child would enter the scene. Family was everything to her and she often said, “I don’t need any thing. I have it all and it is family.”
Carol is survived by her siblings Ballard James “Jim” (Sheila) Whitaker Jr. and Patty Ann Brierley, children Tamara Lynne (Shawn) Warenski, Michelle (Michael) Hall, Tracy Yvonne Hales, Wendy Lee Bean, Troy Whitaker (Shauna) Hales, Clint Carlos (Jeana) Hales. 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren with one more due in February and 5 step greatgrandchildren.
Her graveside service will be held on Wednesday January 20th, 2021 at 11:00 am for immediate family only. There will be a public viewing that morning from 9:30-10:30 at the Warenski Funeral Home, located at 1776 North 900 East in American Fork, UT. Due to Covid 19, masks will be required.
