Lloyd Richard Stone, or Rick as he was called by his friends and family, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday March 12th, 2021.

Rick was born in Lehi, Utah on July 16, 1957 to Dal and Dolores Stone.  Rick was naturally athletic and enjoyed sports and physical activities growing up.  After graduating from Lehi High School, Rick moved with his family to Southern California.  It was there that he decided to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Rick was called to serve in the Taiwan Taipei mission.  In Taiwan, Rick became fluent in Mandarin Chinese, which would prove useful to him later in life.

In the early 1990’s Rick’s chiropractic business was especially hard hit.  It was then that he decided to make a career change and move back to Utah.  Rick found a job with Salt Lake County as an environmental health scientist, a job he had for over twenty years and from which he recently retired.  In this job, he frequently had the opportunity to use his Mandarin language skills.  Rick prided himself on his Mandarin fluency and worked hard to stay fluent.  In fact, the Mandarin Chinese flash cards that he’d acquired in preparation for his mission were on his dining room table when he passed away.

In August of 2019, Rick was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer. Rick underwent several surgical procedures to alleviate problems caused by his pancreatic tumor and also went through a round of chemotherapy and radiation.  After recovery from the chemotherapy and radiation, Rick regained his energy and enjoyed many good months. Six weeks before he passed, he made a trip to his winter home in California and was happily working in the yard and enjoying the sunshine.  However, unbeknownst to Rick, his cancer had been spreading and shortly after returning home from California, his health took a turn for the worse.

Rick was a bit of a hermit, but did have a small circle of friends who were attentive to him in his last days.  Thank you for your kind service.  Rick and his family appreciated the visits.

Rick is survived by his brothers, David, Howard and Dennis.

There will be a graveside service at the south end of the Lehi City Cemetery on Saturday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m.
