Carol Lynn Kelly Dunn
Carol Lynn Kelly Dunn
1935 ~ 2021
The children of Carol Lynn Kelly Dunn would like to inform her friends and neighbors that she was reunited with her husband on March 27, 2021. She was born on August 25, 1935 in Phoenix Arizona on the hottest day of the year with no air conditioning, as she was reminded each birthday by her mother, Linnie May Telford Kelly. Her father Benson Felshaw Kelly introduced her to Saturday matinees and instilled a love of movies which transcends generations. Being an only child, the three Kelly’s spent her childhood traveling from Denver, to Billings, to Boston wherever the work would take them. Carol graduated from Lakewood high school in 1954 before attending BYU.
While at BYU she lived with delightful roommates and enjoyed wonderful adventures such as creating a shrine to the star basketball player, or food fights at the movies or drag racing on the streets of Star Valley. A rare beauty, Carol attracted men like magnets who would look twice when she walked by. While she could have had her choice of any handsome man, she chose a slightly balding man from a very small Utah town, not for his looks but because he was a man of character, JL Dunn had the right stuff.
JL and Carol were married on December 13, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Star Valley Wyoming where JL accepted his first teaching job and they anticipated their first child, a girl, Lynda. In 1958 Carol found her true home in Southern California where the Dunn family lived for many years. This is where two more daughters were born Kelly and Stefanie and this is where she came to love the beach, church callings and many, many dear friends. Carol delighted in serving in Young Women’s where she was able to enjoy the company of young people, the teachings of the gospel and the company of fine women leaders. Her favorite holidays were spent at the beach and she craved the scent of the ocean for the rest of her days. She was truly a California girl.
In 1973 the Dunn family moved to Salina Utah where the family was finally blessed with a boy, Michael, but the California sun called them back in 1977 where they lived until 2000. Carol and JL lived in Alpine Utah until his death in 2018. Carol again demonstrated her ability to develop eternal friendships and found that Utah has great things to offer, its people.
Things were never easy for Carol and her endurance through the most difficult of trials is truly remarkable. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace and with parents and a husband that love her and if there is a beach in heaven, well, we’ll know where to find her.
Carol is survived by her children Lynda (John) Worthington, Kelly (Guy) Maw, Stefanie (Larry) Sparks, Michael (Rhianne) Dunn, her grandchildren Nataleigh Worthington, Stephen (Denise Flack) Worthington, Katie (Adam) Dayton, Lauren (Greg) Roberts, Holly (Andrew Rasmussen) Sparks, Sydnee Sparks, Riley Dunn, Delainey Dunn, Aiden Dunn, and her great grandchildren Samuel Dayton, Jack Dayton, Oliver Dayton, Skyler Rasmussen, Miles Roberts, Maxton Rasmussen, Duke Dayton, Finley Mateer, Evelyn Roberts, Jane Roberts.
Graveside services for Carol will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Annabella Cemetery.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of River Meadows Senior Living. Such kindness and generosity is rarely seen, the kitchen staff, the administrators, everyone is professional and loving, and to all those CNAs, you are the best!
