Myron Dale Jones
Myron Dale Jones
1927 ~ 2021
Myron Dale Jones, our beloved father, husband, and grandfather, slipped peacefully through the veil early Sunday, June 13, 2021. He died of causes incident to old age.
Myron was born February 17, 1927 to Morley and Ada Morrill Jones in the small Uintah Basin town of Tridell, Utah. He lost his mother at the tender age of seven, and his father and family members watched over him until he graduated from American Fork High School in 1945. After a chance on-campus meeting with university president Howard S. McDonald, Myron knew he wanted to go to BYU. Entering in the fall of 1945, he attended on and off over the next several years, earning his own way and eventually graduating with his BS degree.
Myron served in the Army from 1952-54 and was stationed at Fort Ord, California and, for his last nine months, in Wiesbaden, Germany. He treasured his experiences there, including the opportunity to take weekend trips to see Rembrandt’s works in Amsterdam, visit the Louvre in Paris, and see the Tower Bridge in London.
In June 1957 Myron and a partner purchased and operated a small, run down business named Murray Glass. He bought out his partner in 1959 and operated the shop for almost 31 years, turning it into a successful auto glass and commercial and residential window business. Myron loved serving his customers and had a reputation for honesty in all his business dealings. He also served the broader community as a member of the board of directors of the Murray Chamber of Commerce and on the Murray City Planning and Zoning Committee.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in many callings throughout his life. He loved missionary work and quietly tried to encourage those who had fallen away from the gospel path.
In 1957 Myron met Anna Loy Dece Strong of Alpine. They were married on December 4, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple, shortly after she returned from her service in the New England States Mission. Together they had three children: Stephen, Deanna, and Douglas. Loy Dece was the light of their lives. Her example of service and strength of testimony sustained her family and so many others. She and Myron served in their ward and traveled the world. Their lives exemplified the value of hard work and honest living. Sadly, she passed away of cancer on June 20, 1988.
Myron married Faye Sumens Willis on September 21, 1991. Together, they spent almost 30 happy years being with and strengthening their families. Family brought them so much joy. They loved hosting family gatherings and parties. None of us will ever forget those incredible Halloween parties with piñatas full of candy, Grandpa Jones’s famous birthday paddle, and Christmas dinners and programs including the hilarious “Sally and Johnny Right” white elephant gift exchanges.
Myron and Faye served from 1994-1995 in the Texas Fort Worth Mission. They worked in the mission office by day and in the evenings taught and touched many lives. It was one of the highlights of their lives together, as were the trips they took to places far and wide. They moved to American Fork in 2003, where their neighborhood and ward members became treasured friends. Life there was a bit of heaven on earth.
Those who knew him often heard Myron’s expression of simple faith: “Trust in the Lord.” At age 86 he wrote, “I know that if we are faithful and do our best we will be rewarded by returning to His presence and being with Him and our loved ones when our earthly life is over.” Dad, we are sure that reward is now yours.
Myron is survived by his wife, Faye Sumens Willis Jones, his children Stephen M. and Wendy Jones (Provo), Deanna M. and Joel Porter (Ogden), Douglas R. and Nancy Jones (Phoenix, AZ), and Faye’s children Lee and Joni Willis (Taylorsville) and Becky and Paul Mann (Bountiful). Thirty seven amazing grandchildren and twenty three awesome great grandchildren love to call him and Faye “Grandpa and Grandma.”
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11 o’clock a.m. at the American Fork 19th Ward Chapel, 1305 North 100 East in American Fork, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 am prior to the services. Interment will follow in the Alpine City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.warenski.com
