Anthon Olson Jr., age 81, died peacefully on June 22, 2021, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in SLC following complications with a lung infection.

Tony was born in Oakland, CA on Sept 1, 1939, to Anthon & Gladys Olson.  He joined the US Navy at the age of 18, right out of high school, where he served during the Cuban Crisis and Vietnam War.  He loved our country and was proud to stand for freedom.

After his military service he met his sweetheart, Sylvia, and proposed 2 weeks later.  They were married on August 20, 1965, in the Oakland LDS Temple.  In the early years of their marriage, they lived in different parts of California, but eventually settled in Portola where they raised 6 boys on a ranch with 80 acres.  Tony taught them by example the value of hard work, being self-sufficient and honoring the priesthood.

As a member of the “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints” he enjoyed serving in several different capacities, including High Priest Group leadership, Bishopric and Stake Missionary.  Anytime service was needed in the ward, Tony was ready to lend a hand.  He was especially great at organizing moving projects.  Throughout his life, he worked in many different capacities, but most often described himself as a machinist. He worked on the first artificial heart in the Bay area, building the parts for it. Tony found joy in fixing things, solving problems in creative ways, and thinking outside the box, which are all characteristics typical of people with Dyslexia, like Tony.

He was recently preceded in death by his sister, Blythe Fredovitch and son Scott Olson, who both died of Cancer.  He is survived by his sweetheart, Sylvia and 5 sons: Paul, Jim, Ben, Joe, Tim as well as 31 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Tony will be missed by those that loved him.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral celebrating his life on July 1, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. preceded by a viewing at 9:00 the same day.  Please join them at the Warenski funeral home in American Fork (1776 N. 900 E.) or on Zoom at the following link:
