Charles Steven DuBois
Charles Steven DuBois returned to his Heavenly Parents and many beloved family and friends on September 16, 2021 after a short but aggressive battle with cancer.
He was born July 3, 1942 in Santa Monica, California to Charles Edwin and Helen Marie DuBois. He was the little brother to his four year old sister Jackie and a bright addition to their family. He attended Brentwood Elementary, Paul Revere Jr. High, and both University and Pacific Palisades High Schools. He played Little League Baseball and was a talented pitcher who loved playing in tournaments and on his church fast-pitch softball team. At the age of 16 his father passed away and he was then raised by his most beloved mother and many faithful men and women of the church who he remained deeply grateful for as they guided and directed him.
He is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and at the age of 19 was called to serve a two year mission to the Alaska-Canadian Mission. This was definitely a highlight of his young life and he always kept in close contact with his mission president. Within a year of returning from his church mission he married whom he said was “the prettiest girl in the world”, Ilsa Arnold, in the Los Angeles temple. They had known each other from being in the same family ward but really noticed each other after he returned. Together they have eight wonderful children who are the greatest joy of their lives. There was never anything more important to him in this world than being with and supporting his family.
Steven and Ilsa lived in West Los Angeles for the first eight years of their married life where Steve loved teaching early morning seminary as he worked for Premier Insurance as a Commercial properties and a Home and Automobile adjuster. During this time, he was also a counselor in the bishopric of his ward. In 1972 he and Ilsa moved to American Fork, Utah where he started his own successful insurance agency. Later he also became a top real estate agent, earning multiple awards. He returned to insurance for Aetna and Travelers Insurance agencies for thirty years until his retirement.
Steven served as the bishop of the American Fork 21st ward for seven years and especially loved working with the youth and widows in his ward. He truly loved this congregation and its members and has always had a spiritual gift of working with people. He can sense the needs of those around him many times before they can sense them themselves. He loved playing the guitar, singing, and performing with his wife and children. He has many musical talents and a beautiful singing voice and loved sharing this gift with others.
After his retirement, he and his wife served a full-time mission in the San Fernando, California Mission which included Bishop, California and the resort town of Mammoth Mountain. Upon returning from this mission with his wife they were called to serve in the Orem 3rd Stake 37th ward with the young single adults. They served in this position for seven years. Both their mission and the YSA opportunity were a highlight of his life after his own children were grown.
He is survived by his wife Ilsa DuBois, children Steven DuBois, Stephanie Simmons, Mark DuBois, Melissa Johnson (Troy), Melinda Dibb (Greg), Matthew DuBois (Sara), Michael DuBois (Julia) and his 37 grandchildren. He loved telling everyone that he had 37 grandchildren, though 9 of those are great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Charles DuBois, his sister Jackie Bergstrom, his daughter Michelle DuBois, daughter-in-law Rachelle DuBois, son-in-law Ronald Simmons, and grandson Rylan Simmons.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, September 27, 2021 at the American Fork 20th Ward Chapel, 825 East 500 North, American Fork, Utah.
