Shirlee Francine Bowles Young
Shirlee Francine (Bowles) Young, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on September 22nd 2021. Shirlee was born July 25th 1940 to William Preston Bowles and Stella Dean (Templeman) Bowles. She is the younger of William and Stella’s two daughters. She joins her Husband Stephen who passed away in 2017.
Shirlee grew up in Holladay, Utah. She attended Olympus High School and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She and Stephen were high school sweethearts and were married and sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 19th, 1960.
Shirlee and Steve had their first 2 girls in Holladay then bought a cute home in Murray where they had 2 boys. They purchased 7 acres in the country in Highland, Utah in 1972 and built a home and had one more daughter. Shirlee taught her sons and daughters to work hard and love animals and she was known to always had a dog or two at her feet.
Shirlee was a musician playing the piano and singing all her life. She loved music and always carried a song in her heart. She taught all her children to sing and love music as well. She and her friends started up a singing group that performed for over 21 years called “Just Friends”. They performed at various events Including LDS firesides, Holiday parties and company dinners. Shirlee was a very talented performer and had a natural presence on the stage.
Shirlee always chose to be happy. She spoke the truth and loved to live it. She was devoted to her husband Steve and each of her children and their spouses. She adored all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family was always her number one priority in life. She ensured each one of them were loved, well fed and dressed sharp. Shirlee loved to cook and everyone loved to come to her home to eat. Each meal was carefully prepared and served with a smile.
Shirlee was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints never questioning her faith. She served in many capacities, callings and presidencies over the years, but her heart was always with the primary children as their music leader.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Father and husband Stephen Kendall Young. She is survived by her sister, Utahna Darlene (Bowles) White, five children, Shelley McKinney (Rodney), Sherree White (Mark), Spencer Young (Sandy), Stuart Young (Shellene), and Suzanne Bassett (Bryan), 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the healthcare workers at Utah Valley Hospital for their dedicated care and kindness during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held on Friday October 1st, 2021 at 11:00 am at the North Ranch Ward Chapel, 9475 Mustang Way, Eagle Mountain, Utah. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, September 30th, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the church and again on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services. Interment will be at the Highland City Cemetery.
