Mary Pricilla Livingston

1940 ~ 2021

Mary Pricilla Livingston peacefully returned home to the Lord on December 8, 2021 surrounded by family in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She was born on July 12, 1940 in Rehoboth, New Mexico into the Black Streaked Wood People Clan for the Towering House People Clan in the Navajo tribe.

Mary grew up in the Rehoboth, Breadsprings, Pinehaven, Gallup area in New Mexico. In her early childhood years, she suffered the loss of her dear mother. Through that loss she formed a tight bond with her six brothers and one sister. She participated in the LDS Indian Student Placement program, under loving care of Frank and Wilma Petty, which opened doors to educational and employment opportunities.

Mary graduated from Cedar City High School (Cedar City, Utah) in 1961. She attended Stevens Heneger Business College (Utah) in 1963. She received her certification of Clerk Typist from Sawyer Schools of Business (Pasadena, California) in 1966. From 1959 to 1971, she worked at the following: as cabin maid and sales clerk at Zion’s National Park and Grand Canyon National Park (North Rim); as clerk typist at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Administration building (Salt Lake City), the Utah State Capitol (Salt Lake City), and at the Bureau of Indian Affairs Intermountain Indian School (Brigham City, Utah). Prior to retirement, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Pioneer Care Center for 15 years.

During her lifetime, Mary was devoted and loving to her daughter, Janet, to her brothers and sister, and her Navajo clan family comprised of many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. She was a woman of faith who trusted the love and guidance of God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints and treasured her time at the temple to provide service for loved ones.

Mary was an influencer and a doer. She expressed love and happiness to family, friends, and strangers through any of the following ways: giving service, speaking words of encouragement, spending quality time, giving gifts, or providing a hug, a reassuring touch of the hand, or a pat on the back. Her gentle soul brought peace and calmness to weary hearts to keep going through the good and hard times. Her curious nature for life and people turned a stranger into a friend, and a friend then became family.

She is loved and cherished by her Livingston family, Navajo clan family, foster family, church family, work family at Pioneer Care Center, and nursing care facility family at Alpine Valley Care Center where she resided for the past thirteen years.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Livingston, of Cedar Hills, Utah; her brothers Tom Livingston, Peter Livingston, and Lester Livingston, of Sundance Coal Mine area, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Nasbah Livingston, sister Marie Livingston Skeet, brothers Bobby Livingston, William Livingston Sr, and Wilbur Livingston.

Heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated care and kindness by Sundance Care Center staff (Gallup, New Mexico) and Alpine Valley Care Center staff and Alpine Branch members (Pleasant Grove, Utah) who supported her medical, social, emotional, and spiritual need. And the doctors, nurses, CNA’s, and the staff at American Fork hospital, Alpine Valley Care Center, and CNS Hospice Care who helped her to be comfortable through her last days.
