Thomas Smith Hutchinson

October 15, 1962 – December 20, 2021

Our beloved father, grandfather, friend and brother peacefully returned to our Heavenly parents on December 20, 2021 after suffering multiple health problems.

Tom was born in Los Angeles, California on October 15, 1962.  He was adopted by Harvey L. and Varo C. Hutchinson a few years later and joined a family with three boys and a girl. Following his joining the family, three more brothers and a sister came into the family.

Double bunk beds were a standard feature for several years as Tom shared a room with the three oldest boys.  They got along as you would expect from brothers, with a lot of laughs and fun and the occasional dust-up.  Tom was always able to hold his own.  He brought laughter, a sense of fun and adventure to the family.  As Tom got older, he grew to love playing football, where his strength and toughness was a great advantage.

Out of high school, he married Virginia Campbell and they soon had six children, Britani, Mandi, Jessica, Jordan, Nickellett and Sienna.  Tom and Ginger eventually divorced, but they never gave up the love they had for their kids.  Tom also had a son, Travis Hatfield, who has become a great friend in the last few years.

Tom worked extremely hard to support his family.  His jobs were physically demanding and required a lot of time on his part.  In addition to this hard work, Tom loved to hunt and fish whenever he could.  He loved being outdoors in the wild.  He loved being physically active.  He always appreciated a solid truck.

For the last several years, Tom’s physical health declined.  He had several health problems and came to rely on his family and caregivers more often.  Even though he had these adversities, he always tried to keep an upbeat attitude and could always be counted on to laugh and get others around him to do the same.  Like the best story-tellers, there was always some extra facts in his stories.

Tom loved being a grandfather to his grandkids.  He loved having them over to his house, no matter how bad his health was at the time.  He loved sleepovers, late nights, movies, treats and spoiling them.  Especially way more candy than their parents would let them have.  He loved to pass on his knowledge about the outdoors.  His grandkids were able to out fish him as they got older.

He enjoyed his membership in the American Fork 8th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, especially the last 15 years of his life.  He was loved by many Ward members and did kind things for them as he could and helped in spite of his physical limitations.  His last years were made easier with the company of Sherry Fawcett, his special friend, whose kind concern made things easier for him as they took care of each other.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Lynn Hutchinson; his brothers, Thomas Lee and Ben Jay Hutchinson and his grandson, Hayden Horner.   He is survived by his mother, Varo Christensen Hutchinson; his brothers: Terry (JeNee’), Ted (Cindy), John (Sharon), Gary, and Dan (Annika) Hutchinson, and his sisters, Ann Fullerton (Baird) and Marci Larkin (Boyd); his children, Britani, daughter; Mandi Davey (Brian) daughter; Jessica Finch (Jacob), daughter; Jordan, Nickelett Allen (Dalton), daughter; Travis Hatfield, son; Sienna Bassett (Jence), daughter; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 11:00 am at the American Fork 8th Ward Chapel, located at 320 North 100 East, American Fork, Utah, 84003.  Family and friends may call between 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be at the Alpine City Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.warenski.com
