Patricia Bringhurst Hayes
Patricia Bringhurst Hayes was born on 14 April, 1936 in Trona, California, the daughter of Elden Scott Bringhurst and Ethel Brown Bringhurst. Her family moved to Santa Barbara, California, when she was a young child. She graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1954. She attended Brigham Young University from 1954 to 1958. She earned a Bachelor’s in Journalism and was the first in her family to obtain a college degree. In her senior year at BYU she met Rex Bruce Hayes and married him in the Los Angeles Temple on 20 June 1958. He was the love of her life.
She taught Interpersonal Communication and Speech at Mendocino Junior College in Ukiah, California. She raised four children whom she loved with her whole heart and soul.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served with love in various capacities throughout her life. She served two senior missions with her sweetheart: one in American Fork, Utah and another in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
She was skilled in sewing, quilting, stitchery; she was also a beautiful artist and poet. She was an avid reader and read voraciously throughout her life.
She loved everyone she knew. She became an angel on this earth long ago and blessed us all with her generous spirit and unconditional love. She mastered so many Christlike qualities in her 85 years. Her ability to love so completely, served her in her roles as wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother.
With her gift for serving others, she also learned how to let others serve her, especially in the last years of her life. She endured many physical challenges and in the end, taught us all how to allow others to serve us with dignity and grace.
Patricia passed away peacefully on Saturday, 26 March 2022. She is survived by her children Julia Hayes Fletcher (Scott), Karen Hayes Scott (Steven), Ilene Hayes Hunt (Jeffrey), and Elden Bruce Hayes (Michelle), 14 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.
