Joy Fisher Hansen

1931 – 2022

Joy Fisher Hansen, of American Fork, Utah, passed away peacefully at 10:45 on Sunday morning October 9, 2022 after a long life well lived. She was 91 years old when she passed away.

Joy was born on September 12, 1931 in the small farming town of Hill Spring, Canada to Neff Gibb and Erma Fay Skipworth Fisher. She was raised in a loving home surrounded by her faithful and loving family. Joy was encouraged to develop her talents; a love for music, others and especially for the Lord.

She attended Hill Spring Elementary, Box Elder High School, Provo High School and 2 semesters at BYU. Her senior year Joy served as a member of the color guard and was voted ‘best senior smile’ while attending Provo High School.

She married C. Blaine Hansen of Brigham City Utah on March 27, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were parents of six children, who they loved, taught and nurtured throughout their lives here on earth.

Joy taught her children a love for music, learning, creativity and devotion to the Savior. She actively taught the gospel in her home, which brought Joy and her children much stability and peace in times of trouble. She relied on the Lord throughout her entire life.

Joy was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many church responsibilities, Primary teacher, Stake Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, Homemaking Leader, Primary chorister, RS counselor, RS teacher, Jr. SS Coordinator, Primary counselor, YW presidency and teacher, Single Adult Representative on ward, stake, and regional levels.

Joy worked as an aid in the title I program for a short time, part time as a librarian at the Am. Fork city library and then as a media specialist for 10 years. She also did private tutoring after school and during the summers teaching many children to spell and read better. She loved sharing her love of books and reading to all those under her tutelage.

Joy was preceded in death by her oldest son Craig Blaine, who died of complications related to his hydrocephalus at the age of 6. She also lost her husband Blaine at the age of 36, from a small aircraft accident and a grandson Joshua Garlick. She was also preceded in death by her parents Neff Gibb and Erma Fay Skipworth Fisher and her oldest brother Ledell, younger siblings Philip, Gloria & James.

She is survived by her children: Dwight (Debbie) Hansen, Linda (Lloyd) Nelson, Kim (Patty) Hansen, Brad (Karen) Hansen, Tammi (Michael) Garlick; brother Morgan (Kathy) Fisher, sister Thelma (Del) Broderick, Sister in laws: Carol Fisher & Anne Fisher. She is 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 10:00 am in the American Fork 12th Ward Chapel, located at 673 East 300 North, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:00-9:45 am prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to the dedicated workers at Amada home health and Dignity home health/hospice. Also for her loving friends in the 12th and 22nd ward and all who touched her life in any way especially throughout her last few declining years. They have all been merciful angels who have lifted Joy and her family.
