Phyllis Roach Fillmore

1941 – 2022

Phyllis Roach Fillmore was born on September 8, 1941, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Rex Mortensen Roach and Ida Bessie Jenkins Roach.  She passed away on October 11, 2022, in Alpine, Utah at the age of 81.

She was the youngest of eight children and had a very special relationship with both of her hard-working parents.  As a youth, she enjoyed dancing and piano lessons.  She was a cheerleader during high school and served as Student Body Secretary.  The students with whom she worked with said, “As secretary, she has done credible work, maintaining her genuine personality.”  She graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1959.  After graduation, Phyllis worked for the Central Utah Bureau of Reclamation as a secretary where she was recognized with multiple awards for her outstanding performance and dedication.  She attended college at Brigham Young University and while there she served as President for the Chi Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Phyllis met Curtis Fillmore in second grade and while they remained friends throughout high school, they did not start dating until college.  Phyllis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she and Curtis married on December 19, 1963, in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple.  Together they have three daughters and two sons.

She and Curtis have 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Erica Jensen (Clayton) Hurst, Becca (Andrew) Glover, Elizabeth Jensen (deceased), Bailey Fillmore (Brian) Christensen, Amanda Jensen (deceased), Daxton (Katherine) Glover, Samantha Fillmore (Aj) Peterson, Natalie Jensen, Mallory Jensen, Claire Fillmore, Sydnee Fillmore, Brooklyn Fillmore, Easton Fillmore, Jane Fillmore, Hallie Fillmore, Sabrina Fillmore, Addison Rose, Jocelyn Marie Hurst and Maverick Peterson.

Phyllis and Curtis spent 13 years in New York.  A job transfer sent them back to Utah in 1983 and there they established their home in Alpine.  In 1990, they moved to Denmark for two years where they traveled all throughout Europe.  They returned to Utah where they enjoyed seeing their family grow while hosting family get togethers from the beauty of their backyard.

She is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Dwayne Fillmore; daughter Kimberly (Craig) Jensen of Highland, Utah; daughter Kristen Fillmore of Alpine, Utah; son Shane Curtis (Chy Ayn) Fillmore of Highland, Utah; daughter Catherine (Bryan) Rose of Alpine, Utah; son Steven Rex (Mindy) Fillmore of Cedar Hills, Utah; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother Gary (Carma) Roach of Spanish Fork, Utah; sister Pat (Bill) Hyrkas of Bountiful, Utah.  She was preceded in death by her father, Rex, and mother, Ida; sisters Gloria Peay and Betty Cloward; brothers Ray Roach, Roy Roach and J.R. Roach; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Amanda.

Funeral service will be Tuesday morning, October 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Village Way Chapel, 901 Village Way, Alpine, Utah.  Family and friends may call on Monday evening, October 17, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., at the Village Way Chapel, prior to the funeral service.  Interment will be at the Spanish Fork City, Utah Cemetery.

Donations can be made in honor of Phyllis Fillmore to the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at LDS Hospital through the Intermountain Foundation
