Sherl Lynn Vincent 1925-2023 Sherl Lynn Vincent, our most loved husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend, surrounded by family, peacefully passed away at the age of 97, February 12, 2023.
Sherl was born on August 3, 1925, at home in Provo, Utah, the second of 5 children, brothers Keith, Carl, Ned, sister Gayla, born to Alma Lynn and Fontella Western Vincent.
Sherl married Betty Redding in 1954. They had 2 sons, Robert and James. They were later divorced.
He met and married LaPreal Vincent in 1965. She brought 5 children to the marriage: Lorna, Carl, Joyce, Alan, and Kent Childs. LaPreal passed away in October of 2021. They had been happily married for 56 years.
Sherl has led an extremely active and productive life. He grew up and attended schools in Provo Utah. Sherl was stationed in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He loved to own and fix up cars. He had been doing this since the age of 14. He also learned to fly airplanes after the Navy. He was an automotive machinist for many years and he and LaPreal started their own machine shop, Sherl’s Automotive. After retiring from his shop, he went to work as a traveling salesman for Quick Way. And then on to Alpine School District as a head custodian at Lakeridge Jr. High School. Retiring from the Jr. high he went on to work for Yates Trailer, repairing travel trailers. He finally retired for good at the age of 84.
Sherl has had extremely good health and has been very active until the last few months, when he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Sherl was a friend to everyone and liked to help anyone that needed help, especially those with car trouble or motors of any type. He loved to be around family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. He had a joyful laugh and loved to tease.
He is survived by his children Lorna Trogstad, Joyce (Dennis) Patten, Kent (Cindy) Childs, Alan (Lisa) Childs, sister Gayla Beatty, sister-in law Liz Vincent and brother -in law Dean (Bonnie) Rowley. He had 65 grand and great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Sherl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lapreal, brothers, Keith, Carl, and Ned Vincent; sons Robert Vincent, James Vincent, Carl Childs, son-in-law Ron Trogstad, and granddaughter Tami Childs.
Sherl’s family would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to all those who helped him in any way to be comfortable and happy through his illness and last days; Dr. Clark Bishop and staff, Action Hospice, and especially Jessica, Laura and Wayne.
Funeral services for Sherl will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Suncrest 3rd Ward Chapel, located at 95 North 600 West. Family and friends may attend a viewing on Thursday morning from 9:00-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
