Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, Scott Summers, returned to his heavenly home on April 6, 2023 in Payson, Utah, with his wife Stacey by his side, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Scott was born on May 22, 1966 in Ogden, Utah. As a young child he lived in Layton where he loved exploring the open fields around his home. His family moved to Farmington when he was ten where he spent his time riding dirt bikes, playing basketball, baseball, and football in the neighborhood with friends. Scott graduated from Davis High School. He played tight end on the football team and his one regret from high school was losing the football State Championship his senior year to Alta High. He was proud to be an Eagle Scout. Scott served an LDS mission in Asuncion Paraguay, Spanish speaking, from 1985-1987. He attended Weber State College where he enrolled in the Army ROTC. He loved his work there as a sports writer and eventually Editor of the Weber State Signpost. He was an excellent writer. Scott earned a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees. The one he was most proud of was MS in Strategic Intelligence, 2010 from the National Intelligence University (was NDIC) in Washington DC.

Scott married the love of his life, Stacey Hunter, on April 15, 1998 in the Bountiful Utah LDS Temple and instantly became a father to Stacey’s four small children. Scott loved those children with all his heart and instantly and forever claimed them as his own! Eventually, they had two more children which completed their family. In 2003, they moved to Alpine and raised their family.

Scott loved his country! He served in the Army National Guard as a Military Intelligence Officer for 26 years.  He was also a Counterintelligence agent for 18 of those years. Scott worked full time at the Joint Language Training Center (JLTC) as a linguist and Team Chief for National Guard Duty Counterdrug (FTNGDCD) from August 1994 to September 2014. Scott had assignments that took him all over the world. Highlights of his career include a tour to Iraq as an Executive Officer, 141 MI Bn, UTARNG, Chief of Staff, Joint Interrogation and Debriefing Center, Multi-National Forces – Iraq, Baghdad, 2006-2007 and Assistant Chief of Staff, J2, KFOR HQ, NATO, Camp Film City, Pristina, Kosovo, 2013-2014. Scott retired in October 2014. Whenever Scott was asked about his military career and service he said he would do it all over again.

Scott loved BYU football, the Utah Jazz, reading a good book (especially anything military related), golf, chess, watching/coaching his kids’ sports, attending their music recitals, taking Penny (family dog) to the park, quaint little restaurants, Summers’ vacations at Adam’s Lake in British Columbia, Puerto Vallarta, his and Stacey’s “miracle trip” last spring to London, Paris, and Normandy, riding his road bike with Stacey and his friends, and all things Harry Potter.

Scott was a man of few words, but when he spoke they were wise, often witty, and always thoughtful. He was faithful, friendly, hard-working, kind-hearted, eager to listen, quick to laugh, humble, helpful, without guile, spiritual, patriotic, selfless, slow to anger, quick to forgive, loving and loyal.  He was a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

Scott is survived by his wife Stacey, children Breanne (Jake) Jensen, Kylie (Branden) Queiroz, Garrett (Hannah) Summers, Zachary (Daniela) Summers, Jackson Summers, Tia Summers, grandchildren Peyton, Hunter, Ryder, Carson, Chloe, Calvin, Lennon, Rosie and Luka, his mother, Carolyn Summers, sisters Nikki Boice and Stephanie Summers. Scott is preceded in death by his father Douglas Summers.

The family would like to thank all of Scott’s caregivers at Mervyn S. Bennion Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson and his caregivers at Bristol Hospice. He was treated with such respect and dignity in his final months of life. Scott often commented on how comfortable he felt there.

Funeral services for Scott will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Alpine West Stake Center Chapel, located at 327 South Long Drive, Alpine, Utah. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services. Interment will follow at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park, 17111 1700 West, Bluffdale, Utah following the funeral.
