Clifford James Godfrey

1941 – 2023

Clifford James Godfrey, born February 4, 1941 in Rome, Georgia to Barney Pat Godfrey and Mildred Willie Smith.

He served in the Army from April 19, 1960 – April 18,1966.

He married Ellen Fern Homer on April 13, 1968 in Enumclaw, Washington. They were later sealed in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada Temple.

In 1974 he moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska where he worked as a Civil Servant on the Fort Richardson Army Base. He maintained the roads as well as the auto parts yard for 30 years. Retiring in 1998, he and his family obtained and improved an 80-acre homestead in Nikiski, AK. After retiring he started a Kettle Corn & Hot dog stand. He loved traveling the state of Alaska attending all the town fairs.

He moved to Cedar Hills, Utah in 2011, where he worked on the Heber Creeper in Heber, Utah as a host for a few years. Soon after he purchased his own train and gave rides to children in the Provo and Towne Center Malls in Utah and Salt Lake Counties.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served as Elders Quorum President, Ward Clerk, and Employment Specialist. His favorite calling was serving in the nursery. He loved being a home teacher. He also served 2 missions with his wife at the Bishops Store House in Palmer, Alaska.

He was a member of the Model A club and an avid collector of model trains.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mickie and Pat, his younger brother Richard Ross and his great granddaughter Lavander Dayn Carlson.

Survived by his wife, Ellen Fern (Homer) Godfrey, his brother Norman Ross, his children: Clifford James Godfrey Jr, Lani Jo (Godfrey) Vin Zant, Victor Bryce Godfrey, Norman Lynn Godfrey and Tami Ellen (Godfrey) Buckland, 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He passed away on May 4, in Logan, Utah, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services for Clifford will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Grove 8th Ward Chapel, located at 1136 West 700 South, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday morning form 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah.
