Fredrick Kent Lundquist, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 28, 2023 in Draper, Utah. Kent was born in Richfield, Utah on September 11, 1938 to Roland C. and Mary Henderson Lundquist, and was the youngest of their three children. The family moved to Kanab, Utah when Kent was three years old, and Kent always enjoyed sharing sweet memories of his early childhood in Kanab. When Kent was in 6th grade, the family moved to Ogden, Utah, where he spent his teenage years and proudly graduated from Ogden High School in 1956.
Kent went on to study at Weber College, where he served as Business Manager in student government, acted in musical theater productions, and played basketball. One of his favorite and most frequently told stories was of a time when, after riding the bench for much of the season, the head coach reportedly said, “Lundquist, get in there while I think of something.” Kent transferred to University of Utah, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and his Master of Science in Finance degrees.
While attending Weber College, Kent met and married Geneal Norris. They had three children—Richard, Robert, and M’Shelle—and much of the ensuing years revolved around their children’s sports, dance competitions, and other activities. Kent and Geneal were married for 30 years. Kent started his career in California working in the banking industry and then moved the family to Utah, where he worked as a CPA with several companies before being hired as the Deputy County Auditor for Salt Lake City. Kent was an entrepreneur at heart and was instrumental in helping launch many diverse companies over the years.
Kent met and married Karen Lee Orgill in 1994. The couple made their home in Holladay, Utah, which became the gathering place for their large blended family. Kent and Karen have a combined total of 7 children, 35 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Kent’s delightful sense of humor and Karen’s adventurous nature made them extremely fun grandparents, who were deeply involved and engaged in the lives of their grandchildren, who adore them.
Kent enjoyed a lifelong love of music, and he shared his talent in myriad ways. He used his rich baritone voice to sing duets with his accomplished bass-singing brother Robert (Bob). He sang and played piano in several bands during his college years, and he was always willing to pull out his guitar and provide impromptu entertainment. He had impeccable stage presence and comedic timing, and over the years he was asked to emcee too many events to count.
Kent was a joyful follower of Jesus Christ and dedicated much of his time serving in numerous capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Kent served three full-time missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His first was at the age of 20, when he served two and a half years in the Sweden, Stockholm Mission. He then served two senior missions with his wife Karen—one in the Louisiana, Baton Rouge Mission and then returning again to the Sweden, Stockholm Mission.
Kent’s superb humor and wit were indescribably endearing. He described himself as a man “of curious workmanship.” He was intelligent, deeply philosophical, and a gifted writer. He wrote volumes of his musings (which he called his “theories”) on everything from “Cynicism Fundamentals” to “A Rational Approach to Rationalizing Rationalization.” He was amusing, down to earth, and he gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. Kent had a keen awareness of other people, and he dedicated much of his time to supporting small businesses and encouraging entrepreneurs. He was a philanthropist who gave generously to charities and people in whom he believed.
Kent was a selfless husband, a patient father, an attentive grandfather, and a loyal friend. He is survived by his wife Karen; son Robert (Amy) Lundquist, Alpine, UT; daughter M’Shelle (Sean) Dixon, Spanish Fork, UT; daughter-in-law Tammy Lundquist, Kaysville, UT; stepsons Ken (Cate) Orgill, Atascadero, CA; David (Sandi) Orgill, Riverton, UT; Eldon (Teresa) Orgill, Canyon Lake, CA; 35 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kathleen Lundquist. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather Robert Brockbank, brother Robert Lundquist, sister Leila Judd, brother-in-law Derrel Judd, son Richard Lundquist, and stepdaughter Linda Hudson Ross.

Funeral Services for Kent will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:00 am in the American Fork 14th Ward Chapel, located at 1100 East 400 North, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at the Highland City Cemetery.
