Lori Marie Wiscombe
Lori Marie Wiscombe
1954 ~ 2023
Lori Marie Wiscombe, beloved artist, teacher, mother, and grandmother returned to her Heavenly Father, parents, and family on November 30, 2023. She was 69 years old and passed away in St. George, Utah with her dear friend Sharon Anne by her side.
Lori was born on January 14, 1954 as the second daughter of Howard Owen Wiscombe and Dorothy Gail Nichols in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had two sisters, Lynne Wilburn and Cheryl Clyde.
In 1978, Lori married Michael Carl Blickfeldt. They subsequently divorced. Lori and Mike are the parents of two beguilingly handsome sons, Kevin Michael Blickfeldt and Sean David Blickfeldt.
Seeking a better life for her family, in 1988, Lori made the decision to attend the University of Utah to complete her undergraduate education. Lori completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and later pursued a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Additionally, in 2012, Lori earned a Certificate in Spiritual Psychology from University of Santa Monica.
Throughout the years, Lori held a colorful array of jobs. She worked as a reservationist at Eastern Airlines (much to the delight of her family, who flew for free), co-owned a 1970s vintage clothing store (Cinnamon Girl), worked as a toddler trauma therapist at The Children’s Center, and taught high school to special education resource students. More recently, Lori volunteered for the nonprofit group, Mama Dragons, who support, educate, and empower Mormon mothers of LGBTQ kids. Last year, she worked arduously to publish her first book, Listening to God’s Whisperings, which recently earned its first royalty check.
Lori found great joy in nurturing her closest relationships. As a young woman, Lori had a special bond with her grandmother, Margaret Wiscombe. They would spend long hours together working on embroidery, shopping, and watching television. So enduring was the love of Lori for Grandma Wiscombe, that she would watch hours of The Lawrence Welk Show under considerable duress. In recent years, Lori became closer than ever with her beloved mother, Dorothy. The two spoke daily and forged an even greater and more meaningful bond.
Lori’s hobbies included a passion for scrapbooking. In fact, there is an entire scrapbook filled with pictures of Lori just scrapbooking. Astute readers are correct to observe that even her scrapbooks had scrapbooks (very meta). Lori cherished this hobby most when she was joined by her granddaughter, Ava. When Lolie and Ava scrapbooked together, the atmosphere was upbeat, the discussions on creative choices robust, and the snack bowls never empty.
Lori will be remembered for her tenaciousness, her lively laugh and sense of humor, and her generous heart. Along with her two sisters, Lori was a founding member of the musical group, The Butt Sisters. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lori is survived by her two sons: the aforementioned Adonises, Kevin (Thomas) Blickfeldt and Sean Blickfeldt; one granddaughter: Ava Elary Parker-Martin; and, two sisters: Lynne (Gil) Wilburn and Cheryl (Jeff) Clyde.
