Sharlyn Bryner Reid
Sharlyn Bryner Reid
1955 ~ 2024
With humble hearts and a deep sense of gratitude for her life, the family of Sharlyn Bryner Reid announces her peaceful passing at the age of 68, in Woods Cross, Utah after a courageous battle against squamous cell carcinoma.
Born on December 19, 1955 in Kanab, Utah as the fourth of seven children to Henry Keith Bryner and Eula Mae Brooksby, her life was a testament to her enduring respect for all of creation and her unwavering faith as a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She spent her childhood days in Fredonia, Arizona with her six siblings. Her family eventually moved to Las Vegas where Sharlyn attended high school. As an adult, she loved taking her own children back to Fredonia each year for July 4th celebrations.
Upon early graduation from Western High School, Sharlyn ventured to Dixie State College. She then transferred to BYU to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. One fateful day at the pool, she met a tall boy named Ron who went to Clark High School in Las Vegas (the rival).
Ron and Sharlyn were married on June 25, 1976 in the Manti, Utah LDS temple. They settled in Orem, Utah and had their first child Eric in 1977. After 7 years of infertility, they were blessed with a new baby, a girl named Rachelle. Employment needs took them back to Las Vegas where Melissa joined the family and Kiersten was born 3 years later.
Sharlyn loved being a mother. She worked early hours typing medical transcription for physical therapy offices in the Las Vegas valley. While being home, Sharlyn listened to the radio and was a professional at winning many contests including tickets to Disneyland, Sea World, local shows, limo rides, buffets and more!
Once her younger children had grown, Sharlyn started teaching in the classroom. She was a beloved kindergarten and first grade teacher for 20 years at Marc Kahre elementary school in Las Vegas, Nevada. She loved teaching and was often found practicing songs and actions to teach her students days of the week, months of the year and letter sounds.
Ron and Sharlyn enjoyed traveling the world together. They traveled near and far by car, airplanes, cruises and in their RV. A favorite location for Sharlyn was Austria. Many cherished family memories were gathered on their world adventures.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Ron and Sharlyn’s post-retirement cross country RV tour plans in 2021 were cut short due to Sharlyn’s health. They decided to move closer to children in Utah in July 2023. We have loved having them close and have treasured being able to spend Sharlyn’s last few months together as a family.
Sharlyn is survived by her husband and adventure partner of 47 years, Ron, and their children: Eric, Rachelle (Chris) Lyon, Melissa (Ethan) Stayner and Kiersten (Cameron) Montgomery. They have 7 grandchildren: Eli, Coby, Joshua, McKenzie, Maddie, Parker, Lottie and another on the way!
A memorial service honoring Sharlyn’s legacy will be held in Woods Cross, Utah on Saturday, February 17, 2024.
Loved ones are invited to gather for a viewing from 9:00am to 10:00am, with funeral services commencing at 10:00am at the LDS chapel located at 1847 West 2180 South, Woods Cross, UT 84087.
In remembrance of Sharlyn’s compassionate spirit, and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund, continuing her legacy of kindness.
