“Forever Sweethearts”
LaNae Williamson Muhlestein, Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, and Friend returned home peacefully on February 20, 2024. LaNae was born November 12, 1947 in Provo, Utah; Daughter of George and Lucile Wiliamson. She was the third (middle) of five children. She is preceded in death by her husband Dan Muhlestein, her parents, and a brother.
LaNae and Dan met in Jr. High during their orchestra class, they both played the viola. They were married nine years later for time and all eternity in the Manti, Utah Temple on October 11, 1969. They shared eternal love for each other and are examples of unconditional love. They enjoyed their time together and were never apart for very long. She has missed him dearly for the last couple years, but she waited patiently until it was time to join him.
Mom’s life-long passion was her family, which she and Dan worked hard to create. They are parents of six children: Jolynn (Derek) Hegsted, Chad (Kynda) Muhlestein, Dan (Anne) Muhlestein, Shelley (Aaron) Reece, Ryan (Jaina) Muhlestein, Amber (Shaun) Brancheau. Their family has grown to include 25 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, with more on the way.
Mom enjoyed many camping trips with family to her favorite places such as the family property. The “Property” was her happy place and she always enjoyed spending time and relaxing there. Everyone always felt welcome around her, and with a steady supply of smores, many happy memories were made. Mom also enjoyed other trips to Yellowstone, Zions, Grand Canyon and Minersville reservoir.
She was very close with her siblings throughout her life, always planning the next fun thing- from swimming and camping in the summer, to sleepovers after holiday parties. Trading kids for the night was frequently done. Spending time with her nieces and nephews was one of her favorite things to do.
Among her many interests and hobbies, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and canning fruits and vegetables. Every year our parents would grow Concord grapes and harvest them to make grape juice. We have many memories of watching conference and picking the grapes off the stem, one by one, so that the juice would have the sweetest flavor. When her children were young, she and her sisters spent time together canning with children playing under their feet.
Mom was so creative, she loved new projects. She would make us summer clothes, winter clothes, costumes, and dresses for special occasions. She also loved quilting. She made baby quilts, & bedspreads for her kids and grandkids. She loved it so much; she taught Dad to love it too. As they got older, they would make quilts together. Mom would sew the quilt and they would sit and tie them, while watching their favorite show together.
Crocheting was her favorite pastime! She would sit for hours meticulously working on afghans for family and friends. She brought her tin can & yarn with her everywhere she went. She made many blessing afghans, and she also crocheted an afghan for each grandchild to remember their Nanna by.
In her free time, she enjoyed reading, being snuggled by one or two dogs, and getting foot rubs by her children & grandchildren. Mom loved being around big groups of people, creating warmth and being welcoming to all. She loved parties with her children and grandchildren, she always had a reason to celebrate.
Mom enjoyed the holiday season. At Christmas she took extra care to ensure all of us kids had an even number of presents to open, taking turns between all of the kids. Most importantly, video recording the family opening gifts to preserve the effort of her organization and planning. She loved making holiday treats like fruit cake and homemade root beer, a tradition she learned from her parents.
As a nurse, Mom’s life was spent caring for and serving those she was around. She was dedicated in her career as Director of Nursing at Lindon Care Center, working for more than 40 years as an LPN. She was compassionate & selfless. She had a special place in her heart for those she worked with. She made many lifelong friends there.
Mom taught us the meaning of unconditional love. No matter what we did, she was always kind and gentle in her words and actions. She would do anything to help anyone at any time, if she was able. She lived her life as an example to us, she was an Angel on Earth, and we were so blessed to have her as our Mother.
She is survived by 3 siblings, 6 children, 25 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren with more on the way.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff from Warenski Funeral Home, Davita, Stonehenge of Orem, IHC Home Health, Suncrest Hospice, and Utah Valley Hospital (especially the AMAZING Nurses) for their help and support.
