Margaret Ann Bellon
Margaret Ann Bellon
March 3, 1957 ~ May 12, 2024
Margaret Ann Bellon of Alpine, Utah, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in her home on May 12, 2024. Margaret was deeply loved by her spouse of 30 years and adored by her 8 children, 24 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was born on March 3, 1957 as the third and youngest child to Marge and Leo McNichols. She grew up in the small town of Julian, California often playing in the back room of the Julian grocery store, which was owned by her parents. Leo served as a Marine in WWII and Korea. Marge was an avid gardener and baker extraordinaire. Margaret excelled in school and received many academic achievements. In high school, she was President of the California Scholarship Federation, editor of the school paper, a Varsity cheerleader, Senior Class Secretary and participated in the Music and Pep Clubs. Margaret was crowned Miss Julian during her Junior/Senior year of High School. Despite receiving college scholarship opportunities, Margaret loved her country and decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and join the military. She enlisted in the army after graduation and served for 2 years.
While in the Army, Margaret was introduced to the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was later baptized. Margaret was a faithful member of the church, serving in many capacities and always striving to do her best. She always went the extra mile to make sure that everything that she did was perfect. She loved serving in the Primary and spent many decades teaching the youth. Margaret had faith that could move mountains. She had a love of the prophet and the ability to receive personal revelation. She did not believe that the gospel was true, she knew it. She loved spending as much time as she could in the temple. Her dream was to become a temple worker. Due to health issues, she focused on researching Temple History work when attending the temple became too difficult.
Margaret spent her professional career working at Utah Valley University, starting when the University was only a trade school. She worked her way through several positions before retiring as the Director of Graduation services. During Margaret’s career, she worked with many young adults and veterans. She loved hearing their stories and helping them during their life challenges.
Margaret was a wonderful seamstress and quilter. She loved her sewing room and her prized sewing machines and sergers. She spent many hours, days and weeks, repairing ripped clothing, making baby blankets and burp cloths, prom dresses, custom table runners, doll houses, doll clothes, and anything else that her children would ask her to make.
If you were to ask Margaret what her most prized accomplishment was in her life, it would be her family. She was devoted to her husband, Laird for 30 years. She loved spending time with him. They enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, glamping and hunting. They enjoyed taking daily walks and sitting outside to watch the wildlife in the yard. Margaret adored her children and grandchildren. She attended as many elementary programs, recitals, sporting events and graduations as she could. She took the time to listen to each child and found a special way to connect with each one.
Margaret left this life earlier than any of us expected. We will miss her terribly. We treasure the amazing woman that she was, the values that she stood for and the heritage that she left to us. We know that we will see her again.
