Douglas Carl Shepherd
Douglas Carl Shepherd
1931 ~ 2024
Douglas Carl Shepherd passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 28, 2024, after a long and wonderful life. He was 92 years old.
Douglas was born October 18,1931 in Overton Nevada to Rulon Tracey Shepherd and Genevieve Cooley Shepherd. He was the third of four children. They all preceded him in death. His siblings were Kenneth (Charlotte), Arlene (Maurice Bateman), and David (Annis).
At the age of 6 his family moved to Mesa, AZ, where he was raised.
He was a good student and worked hard to excel. He loved sports, especially basketball and had a mean hook shot. He spent his life coaching his children’s teams and influenced many. He loved music as well.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Eastern Canada.
He married Carol Lee John on June 2, 1954, in the Mesa AZ Temple. They were married for 70 years. He graduated with a B.A. from Arizona State University, joined the United States Air Force where he became a 2nd Lt. and learned to fly. His plan was to be a teacher and coach. That plan was short lived as he left AZ and moved to CA to work for The Simmons Institute. He worked there for 12 years and then started MasterPlan, an investment and insurance business with Floyd Weston.
Scouting played a big role in Doug’s life as a teenager and as an adult. He worked with hundreds of young men and leaders. He was an eagle scout, along with three of his sons and numerous grandsons. He also received the Silver Beaver award.
He is the proud Father of 9 children, Douglas Carl (deceased), John Douglas (deceased), Kelly, John (Sherry), Mark, Tacy (Randy McDonald), Jared (Julie), LeAnne (Jason Vernon) and Matthew (Kristina). He dearly loved his 30 grandchildren and his 12 great grandchildren. They will always remember his legendary “tiger hunts”.
