Margaret “Maggie” Hortin Lemon Parke passed away June 28, 2024 surrounded by her husband and children. She was born to William Harper Lemon and Grace Ella Hortin Lemon on July 10, 1940. She grew up in Francis, Utah where she graduated from South Summit High School then went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work at Utah State University. She worked in a meaningful career as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor helping people acquire new job skills and maintain financial independence.
Maggie loved her family, her home, her garden, and great books on many different topics. She had an endless curiosity for the natural beauty, history, and local character of the great American West and often traveled to small towns across the region becoming something of an expert in local culture and sense-of-place. Her children appreciate her intellectual curiosity, willingness to converse on many topics, and acceptance of diverse ideas and people. Her faith in Jesus Christ and devotion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were unshakable.
Maggie is survived by her husband, Duane Parke, her children John (Megan) Parke, Morgan (Kathie) Parke, Rachel (Ajit) Rajbhandari, Mathew (Gigi) Parke, Jean (Marco) Flores, Laura Parke, and Heather (Emerson) Zamora. She is also survived by her son-in-law Mike Edmunds, twenty-four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her daughter Alice Edmunds and her grandson Ben Parke.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 am in the American Fork 33rd Ward Chapel located at 1305 North 100 East, American Fork, Utah 84003. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at the Marion Cemetery in Kamas, Utah at 3:00 pm.
